Performers Needed for "Hurricane Diane" Play
ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. Directors are currently in need of performers for upcoming production "Hurricane Diane". More details are below. About the play: Dionysus—god of wine, fertility, ecstasy, and chaos—returns as a queer, masculine woman disguised as a suburban gardener. Her mission: to transform a tidy cul-de-sac into her devoted acolytes, replacing fences and lawns with ritual and rebellion against climate destruction. As a hurricane barrels up the coast, a debate over landscaping becomes a battle for the planet’s fate. Movement-heavy finale includes crawling, writhing, and reaching; dance experience is a plus but not required. Additional information: Auditions will consist of a monologue from the play, and material will be emailed to you upon sign-up for the audition. Performances June 12-15, 2025 (5 shows). Rehearsals Tuesdays and Thursdays starting March 18. Audition location: Vancouver. If you're interested, please apply

She/her. Chatty and dreamy, wrapped up in picture-perfect ideals and dependent on her friends and neighbours for the little joys that she relies on to get by from day to day. With a mostly-absent husband and a soul-sucking job, she would never complain or let on that her life isn’t perfect, but her little comforts and the approval of her friends are all that bring her joy and she holds onto her ideals with an iron grip.
She/her. Bossy and outspoken and sure of herself, Pam dresses exclusively in animal print and is always bedecked in fabulous jewelry. She is opinionated and a take-charge personality, with a penchant for DIY disaster survival preparation. She is the last to give in to Diane’s charms and demands.
BIPOC, she/her. Chic and elegant with an adventurous spirit. Renee is the editor of HGTV magazine and is very sure of herself without being overbearing like Pam. She wears exclusively designer loungewear and has a fun and eclectic past. She is the second to embrace Diane’s charms and demands.
She/her. Gentle, hurting, distracted, needy. Beth is falling apart after her husband left her. She has worked hard all her life to suppress herself and has been a people pleaser.
Two to Four movement actors will play the ‘role’ of the gardens in the Cul-De-Sac, slowly becoming wilder and more chaotic. Severe poses held with perfect stillness, interrupted by flowing, sudden, frightening, movement. Physically interact with the characters and with the audience. If auditioning specifically for the Garden, and not any of the other roles, please prepare a movement piece of max one minute, with or without music.
