About the Shows: The Wizard of Oz – A funny, fast-paced journey down the Yellow Brick Road with Dorothy and her friends in a fresh and imaginative adaptation of the classic tale. Treasure Island – A high-energy, swashbuckling adventure featuring stage combat, puppetry, movement, and choral singing. Additional information: Rehearsals: Start April 6 (Sundays 10am-6pm, Tuesdays 6-9pm, Thursdays (6:30-9:30pm), and Saturdays 10am-6pm starting June 7). Tech/Dress Rehearsals: July 4-7. "Treasure Island" show. "A boy of about fourteen", Jim is the narrator of our story, impulsive and impetuous at times but displaying remarkable courage and resilience when faced with mutineering pirates. Grows to exhibit increasing sensitivity and wisdom as the adventure progresses. There will be two actors playing this role; on days they are not playing Jim, the actor will be onstage as ensemble.
"Treasure Island" show. Female presenting. "The proprietor of the Benbow Inn" and mother to Jim Hawkins, Mrs Hawkins is a clever, though overworked, woman who has run her husband's business since his death. Her relationship with Jim is loving, but emotionally stilted. The actor cast in this role will play additional ensemble roles. Intimacy in the form of a hug and looting a character's pockets.
"Treasure Island" show. "An educated scholar", Dr Livesey is the local doctor. Aside from Mrs Hawkins, has known Jim the longest, and is a voice of reason and guidance throughout the story. Fair minded, Dr Livesey is possessed of common sense and a steady heart. The actor cast in this role will only play this character. Extensive stage combat.
"Treasure Island" show. Male presenting. "A wealthy landowner", Squire Trelawney is enthusiastic and authoritative, accustomed to being the loudest in the room. He embodies the comforts of the British countryside, and though he is well educated his street smarts are limited. The actor cast in this role will only play this character. Extensive stage combat.
"Treasure Island" show. "A one-legged pirate, appearing first as a cook", the secret leader of the pirate band. Unnervingly strong and charismatic, Silver is deceitful, disloyal, and greedy. Yet, there is genuine affection for Jim, and the two develop a deep bond. The actor cast in this role will only play this character. Extensive stage combat and depiction of physical disability (missing leg).
"Treasure Island" show. Female presenting. The captain of the Hispaniola, and a consummate professional of the seafaring trade. A skilled negotiator and possessed of a keen instinct, she is a rule follower whose personality clashes with Jim's impulsive nature. The actor cast in this role will play additional ensemble roles.
"Treasure Island" show. "Servant to Squire Trelawney" and perpetually longsuffering as a result. A personality completely opposite to Trewlawney's boisterous nature, but deep loyalty brings Redruth on board for the adventure... reluctantly. The actor cast in this role will play additional ensemble roles. Depiction of fatal injury.
"Treasure Island" show. A coxwain onboard the Hispaniola, and Silver's right hand, Israel is the epitome of a reckless pirate. An advocate for classic pirate behaviour (drunkenness, bloodshed, mayhem), those impulsive ways get the better of Israel in the end. The actor cast in this role will play additional ensemble roles. Depiction of fatal injury, and intimacy in the form of close quarters intimidation.
