Casting Talents for 'Transitions' Faith-Based Movie
Transitions is a faith-based family-friendly movie about holding on to faith as we navigate different lessons and questions in modern society. It reminds us that our choices impact others, even when we can't immediately see it. There are other roles that I can't add below. 15-year-old boy, Mimi's baby brother --Steven Thomas Williams 9-year-old twins, Zeke's younger siblings --Maurice Joseph Johnson --Keri Maléna Johnson
7 roles
He is intelligent and articulate. Generally, he has a mellow temperament. He is a great protector by nature... sometimes even when people don't want to be protected. He recently graduated from NC A&T as a Journalism and Mass Communication major. For now, he calls games there, mostly basketball and football. He diligently studies stats and projections for the players and coaches in his upcoming games. His ambition is to become an NFL sideline reporter on ESPN.
She loves her family ferociously and immediately reverts back to being five years old whenever she's talking about, or interacting with, "Mommy" and "Daddy." When she meets Zeke, she's almost done with her MAED program in Elementary Education and Special Education, working towards a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies. Her personality resembles that of Tatyana M. Ali, the original Ashley Banks. The actress chosen will be at least 5-9.
A diligent worker and a shrewd businessman; quick-witted, but tactless. He is often very vocal about higher education being a scam, an unnecessary waste of resources. He is 50 when Zeke and Mimi meet, but he is still quite athletic. His intense temperament rubs most people the wrong way. Mama often acts as a buffer to salvage relationships. Mimi easily breaks through his gruff exterior and it isn't long before “Papa Bear” lets his guard down.
Dess is a stylist at Clips and Snips, a local salon. She is caring, but stern. She is a born-again Christian, but she is not flamboyant like many Black Christian moms on TV and in movies. Her personality is more grounded, resembles Jo-Marie Payton who played Harriet Winslow of “Family Matters.” She is unassumingly athletic and she loves basketball. She might have gone pro but there was no WNBA then. Also, her strict parents objected to the short shorts.
"Jake" is a respectable and diligent architect. He collaborates with many groups and has projects all over Greensboro and a few surrounding cities and towns. Jake is generally mellow and relatable, except when it comes to Mikey. On the rare occasion that Sophie speaks Spanish, it's obvious that Jake doesn't understand.
"Sophie" is very articulate and sophisticated, intelligent, charismatic, and feisty. You might not agree with everything she says, but she's great at breaking things down and helping people buy in. She isn't manipulative, but she can sometimes be rude/bossy and annoying. As aggravating as she can be, you can't help but respect her. She is a second-generation immigrant from Puerto Rico, Yauco near Cerro El Rodadero. She rarely speaks Spanish, except with Stevie.
"Mikey" was born January 13, 1994, and he was Salutatorian of Dudley’s Class of 2012 and he went to NC State on a full academic scholarship. Sometimes, he gets frustrated "living in Mimi's shadow, " but she knows how to encourage him. A night of drinking with the frat led to alcohol poisoning that almost killed him. Jake and Sophie panicked and snatched him out of school and put him in AA. He fights alcoholism for the rest of his life. He is 19 when Zeke and Mimi meet.
