Equity actors for roles in Theatre's 2025 Season. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. See breakdown below. About the project: "DRIVING MS. DAISY" Story line: A three-hander that takes place mostly in Atlanta, Georgia, from 1948-1973. Daisy Werthan, a 72-year-old wealthy, Southern, Jewish, (reluctant) socialite, loses her driving privileges after a car accident. Her son Boolie hires Hoke Coleburn, an unemployed black man of around 60 to be her chauffeur. A relationship that forces the two to confront the ugly truths of a Jim Crow era South through the Civil Rights Act of 1965 and beyond. A play that tackles racism, anti-semitism, wealth discrepancy, education, and navigating the complicated history of Southern society. Driving Miss Daisy helps us understand the answer to these problems is through real human connection. (mid-late 70s: ages 25 years over the course of the play) Jewish-American in the South. A proud, strong, and independent lady who is equal parts Southern and Jewish. A widow. Headstrong matriarch, intelligent, very capable and vibrant woman. At times, insufferable, and concerned with appearances. She lives, simultaneously, within and outside of the dominant Southern culture. She and her family have found financial and social success, to a point. Southern accent. "DRIVING MS. DAISY"

(Late 50s-Early 60s: ages 25 years over the course of the play). He was born on a farm in rural Georgia, didn’t attend school, and has worked as a driver for most of his life. He sees the best in everyone but isn’t shy about telling it like it is. Reads people and situations well. Hard-working. Trying to navigate through the system set up for him. Boolie is Daisy’s son. He ages from 40 to 65 years old during the course of the play. Boolie is a Southern Jewish businessman who pays much more attention to fitting into his Southern culture than his Jewish one. He is busy and practical, not one for much sentimentality, and possesses an affable Southern charm.
