He is the self-effacing, polite, eager ex-student of Bruhl’s who has written a play and seeks the critique and hopefully the approval of the playwright.

Supporting. Sophisticated, upper-class, but embraces the country life; caring, emotional, suffers from anxiety, supportive of Sydney’s career and moods. She is possessed of personal wealth and a heart condition, and has been “keeping a few secrets” of her own. She is the spouse “whose feet are on the ground, and whose eye is on the check book.” She maintains the couple’s life “in apple pie order.”

Supporting. Psychic, wild, individual; in and out of her world and this world; knows she’s a celebrity and buys into the show of her gift; has a Dutch accent. This spiritual, eccentric psychic is a neighbor, who calls round and, very disconcertingly, picks up on past occurrences and things yet to come.

Supporting. He is a smart, observant professional, who has known Sidney for years and manages the family affairs with discretion. He sees more than he says – is actually the smartest man in the room.
