"I Love You Because" show casting actors. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. Please see the breakdown below. Rate: $400 stipend, $300 for understudies. Additional info: SPECIAL NOTE: Auditions are by invitation only and not all submissions will be brought in for an audition. You will be asked to please prepare 16-32 bar selection of a song in the style of the show. NO WEBBER. An Accompanist will be provided. Bring Sheet music in the correct key. All characters are based in NYC in the early 2000s. The play is set-up like a sitcom, each character having their own unique quirks and charms, and the primary focus of the show on their relationships. This production will include dancing for all roles to varying degrees. Some roles may include tap. ALL ETHNICITIES ARE VERY STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO AUDITION FOR ANY ROLE. Male presenting, mover (dancer preferred), tenor to A. A poet/greeting card writer who is an over-planner, high maintenance, has-his-life figured out man, extremely romantic, and just had his heart broken by his cheating ex. Is challenged to change his tight-knit ways by Marcy and ultimately, falls in love with the differences in her that helps him loosen up.
Female presenting, soprano/belter strong mix to F belt to D, mover (dancer preferred). A carefree photographer who just got out of a relationship and is looking for the wrong match so she can eventually find the right one. She’s adventurous, impulsive, bold, and protective of her heart, ultimately falling in love with Austin for being everything she never would go for, but always needed.
Male presenting, dancer, bari-tenor to G optional A. Austin’s older brother, a pedi-cab driver, the comedic relief. Does not believe in relationships and is afraid of getting hurt. He’s fun, quirky, not always the smartest, and he cares for his brother’s wellbeing. Ends up falling in love with Diana after their friends-with-benefits relationship.
Female presenting, dancer, Alto to D. Marcy’s best friend, an actuary, who always goes by the numbers. Very calculated and tells Marcy she needs to find the wrong man before the right one. She’s a good friend, the comedic relief, and ends up falling for Jeff, someone completely opposite to what she thought she’d want, after their friends-with-benefits relationship.
Female presenting, dancer, soprano. Plays multiple roles as the cocktail waitress, baristress, neighbor, Chinese food restaurant manager, and NYC woman. A comedic role, often commentating on the relationships between the four, or playing a part in their stories. Will need to dance.
