About the project: Steel Magnolias is a heartwarming play by Robert Harling that explores the bonds of friendship among a group of Southern women in a small-town Louisiana beauty salon. Set in the 1980s, the play unfolds through humorous and emotional conversations that reveal their personal struggles, joys, and resilience. The story focuses on the lives of six women, including Shelby, a young bride with a health condition, and her strong-willed mother, M'Lynn, as they navigate love, loss, and the complexities of life. With sharp wit and deep emotional resonance, Steel Magnolias celebrates the strength of female friendship and community. Additional info: What to Prepare: TWO contrasting contemporary monologues in the style of Steel Magnolias. Each Monologue should be about ONE MINUTE in duration, no more than a minute -thirty! (Choose monologue material that is similar to the character experience or dramatic arc of the character/s you are most interested in playing in this show. Tailor your monologue choices to target the role/s you want so the audition panel has a better chance of “seeing” you in a role in this show.)
