About the project: SYNOPSIS: It’s 1962 in Baltimore, Maryland, and quirky, plus-sized, teenage Tracy Turnblad has one dream: to dance on "The Corny Collins Show". Tracy transforms from a nobody into a star and uses her newfound influence to advocate for racial integration on the television show. Tony Award-winning Hairspray featuring 1960s-style dance music and rhythm and blues continues to be one of the most widely produced musicals today, not only because of its wit and charm, but also because of the beautiful message of acceptance and progress that it portrays. The bright, energetic story of Tracy Turnblad teaches us all to look past the color of one’s skin and fight for every human being’s equal rights. Rate: A small stipend will be paid based on opening night sales. Additional info: The Theater practices non-traditional casting promoting equal opportunities for all people of color, race, age, disability, gender identity and belief. WHAT TO PREPARE: Please prepare 16 Bars of a song in the style of the show. There will be a dance call, so please bring a change of clothes if needed. ALL roles will dance in this production. Callbacks (by invitation only) Wednesday, January 29th @ 7pm Directors cannot accept any conflicts for tech week or for any of the performance dates. Rehearsal Days: Rehearsals will take place Sundays, Mondays and Wednesdays (with the occasional Thursday as needed). First Rehearsal Sunday February 9th, 6pm. Performance Dates: April 24th, 25th, 26th, 27th May 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 8th, 9th, 10th. If you are interested, please apply.
