Singing Audition for "Sister Act" Play
ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. Seeking performers for production of "Sister Act". Please, see the details below. Additional information: CALLBACKS: Sun, Jan 19th, 6-10pm. SHOW DATES: June 4th-21st 2025 (Wed-Sat 7:30pm & 1:30pm matinee June 14th). Rehearsals will be on Monday and Wednesday evenings & Sunday afternoons and evenings. FIRST READ THROUGH – March 2nd 5:30-9pm. AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: SING – Please prepare a 60-second cut each of TWO Contrasting songs NOT from the show: ONE ballad (contemporary musical theater 1970-present) and ONE up-tempo (contemporary musical theater 1970-present) song OR pop/rock song from the 1970’s/1980’s. Have your lyrics memorized, and remember to act while singing! There will not be an accompanist at auditions, so please have an instrumental backing track ready to play on your phone/device. You are welcome to bring your own speaker but one will be provided. Do not sing Acapella. Please be prepared to sing both songs but you may be asked to only sing one due to time constraints. DANCE – Attend the group dance call after your individual singing audition – see Sign Up Genius. Please dress appropriately (character/jazz/ballroom shoes if possible and formfitting clothing that you can move in). Note: If called back, you will be notified by Wed, Jan 15th. Callbacks will consist of group singing, scenes, and solo singing for lead roles. Those who cannot attend callbacks are unlikely to be cast. If you're interested, please apply.

Mezzo Soprano Belter E3-Gb5, Strong mover. An aspiring performer, trying to find both fame and a place in the world. When forced to hide in the convent, she initially refuses to embrace her new lifestyle but learns to embrace it when she works with the choir. Loud-mouthed, and sassy, but ultimately caring.
Mezzo Soprano, D3-E5, Non Dancer. The head of the convent, sarcastic and a bit stiff. Extremely protective about keeping her sisters away from the outside world, which puts her in direct opposition to Deloris and her musical teachings.
Soprano Mix, Gb3-A5, Strong Mover. A postulant, abandoned as a baby and raised at the convent. Shy and soft-spoken, but singing with Deloris lets her find her voice. Her wallflower lifestyle has made her live a shell of a life.
Baritone, Ab2-Ab4, Mover. A club owner, notorious gangster, and Deloris’s boyfriend. Cocky and controlling, always on the verge of violence.
Tenor Mix, Ab2-B4, Strong Mover or Dancer. The desk chief at the Philadelphia police station and a high school classmate of Deloris who helps get her into hiding. Faces a lot of nerves when under pressure, causing him to sweat profusely. He still yearns for Deloris after all these years, and dreams of being her hero.
Baritenor, E3-G4, Non Dancer. One of the heads of the convent. Constantly concerned with financial matters, though soul music surprisingly puts him in a different mood.
Mezzo Soprano, F3-B4, Mover. A nun of the convent and the head of the choir. Rather deadpan and the least welcoming of any of the nuns, but she gets caught up in Deloris’s soul music.
Mezzo Soprano, A3-B5, Strong Mover. A nun of the convent. Consistently perky, enthusiastic, and easily excitable.
Tenor with falsetto, Db3-Eb5, Mover. Curtis’s nephew and one of his thugs. Deft and cognizant of the fact, constantly in a state of ignorant bliss.
Tenor with falsetto, Bb2-Eb5, Mover. One of Curtis’s thugs. Believes himself to be quite the ladies’ man.
Tenor with falsetto, C4-F5, Mover. One of Curtis’s thugs. A natural follower. (Casting note: Fluency in Spanish is an asset).
Non Dancer. A nun of the convent. Clearly in her own world, but has her moments of surprising clarity.
Non Dancer. A nun of the convent, the oldest of the group. Decrepit at a glance, but secretly packs a punch.
Mezzo Mix, Bb3-F5, Strong Mover. One of Deloris’s back-up singers. Lippy and always quick with a retort. (Will also double as a nun).
Mezzo Mix, Ab3-F5, Strong Mover. One of Deloris’s back-up singers. Naïve and not the sharpest tool in the shed. (Will also double as a nun).
Non dancer. One of Curtis’s thugs. Initially thought to be a mindless yes-man, he turns out to be an undercover police informant.

Understudies and swings may be cast for certain roles. Understudies will be guaranteed a minimum of one performance as their understudied role and have the choice to double in the ensemble. Swings would learn the lines and choreography of certain roles and take the stage in case of injury/illness or absence.
