Casting Actors for Stage Play “Sylvia"
Playhouse is looking for a diverse cast for its upcoming production of “Sylvia". See the details below. About the project: "Sylvia" is a story about Greg and Kate, who have moved to Manhattan after twenty two years of child-raising in the suburbs. Greg’s career as a financial trader is winding down, while Kate’s career, as a public-school English teacher, is beginning to offer her more opportunities. Greg brings home a dog he found in the park – or that has found him – bearing only the name “Sylvia” on her name tag. A street smart mixture of Lab and Poodle, Sylvia becomes a major bone of contention between husband and wife. She offers Greg an escape from the frustrations of his job and the unknowns of middle age. To Kate, Sylvia becomes a rival for affection. And Sylvia thinks Kate just doesn’t understand the relationship between man and dog. A.R. Gurney’s Sylvia is a smart, silly, sophisticated, and occasionally salty comedy about relationships, nature, and growing older. Rate: Unpaid. Additional info: "Sylvia" is the second production in On the Edge Black Box Series. ABOUT THE "ON THE EDGE" BLACK BOX SERIES: Focused on smaller, little-known shows, directors transform their traditional stage into a new theatrical experience with the audience sitting on stage, close to the action unlike anything you have ever seen before at the theater. AUDITION REQUIRMENTS: For auditions, please prepare a comedic monologue around 1-2 minutes in length. If auditioning for Greg, Kate or Adult track, pick a monologue in more grounded comedy, but if interested in Sylvia, pick a comedic monologue that is more energetic, bubbly and focusing on physical comedy. Please note this is a non-union production. Directors are committed to diversity and inclusion, and as such, they are looking to cast performers of all races and ethnicities, gender identities, sexualities, and abilities. Invited callbacks on Friday, December 6.
