About the project: Plot: “Inspired by the Russian folktale, “The Soldier & Death.” This play portrays the life and love of a kindly old soldier, who gains a sack with magic powers and a potion that can bring anyone back from the dead. He uses the sack for good, but quickly finds out that along with the good, comes heartache and evil.” Rated PG. Additional info: Virtual auditions. Seeking talent from Midland, MI. Show Run Time: 2 hours and 30 minutes with a 15 minute intermission. Rehearsals begin in January and Performances In February. Note: The rehearsal schedule is built around the actors availability. Performances are currently slated for: February 21st and 22nd at 7 pm but can be changed after the show is cast. See the audition packet attached. Lead. 35-65. A poor soldier down on luck. No money, can’t afford food and barely a house. Later he is gifted two magical items from a poor old beggar man. He is first gifted a perfect hand of cards that is always guaranteed to win, and a sack that can catch anything. He uses the sack to catch a group of evils, who, in return for their life, give him a potion that can save people from dying. He then uses the sack to catch death, which was his worst mistake yet. Tenor.
Lead. 30-60. Dou Guild's wife. She thinks that her husband is foolish and should quit acting like a child. She is a strong woman who would do anything for her family. She is also very bossy, stern, loving, kind, and can be easily provoked! Soprano.
Supporting. The spooky figure who can be seen in nightmares and life. Does not speak or sing. Will double with other roles and ensemble.
Supporting. Gilda's father who is saved from death. Will double with other roles and ensemble. Baritone.
