About the project: How I Learned to Drive is a wildly funny yet devastating story of survival as seen through the lens of a troubling relationship between a young girl and an older man. Winner of the 1998 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, it is widely regarded as landmark work in modern American theater, particularly for playwright Paula Vogel's nuanced portrayal of sensitive subject matter involving sexual abuse and domestic violence. Set against the backdrop of suburban America, Vogel paints a searing examination of the power dynamics involving abuse and the trauma that shapes the realities and self-worth in victims; but most of all, How I Learned to Drive is a tale of of resilience and healing, opening up important conversations about understanding abuse and coping with it. How I Learned to Drive premiered at the Vineyard Theatre in New York City on January 27, 1997. Additional info: PREPARE: Auditionees will be provided sides to read from the script. Invited callbacks will occur during the audition. *Due to the subject matter, it is advised all actor's familiarize themselves with the play. REHEARSAL Rehearsals begin December 9th with a break between December 20th - January 1st and will generally take place on weeknights from 7-10 pm and occasional weekends. PERFORMANCE DATES January 24th - February 16th Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm; Sundays at 2 pm Additional performances on Thursday, February 6th at 8 pm and Saturday, February 15th at 2 pm.
