About the project: Struggling with the loss of her unborn child, an agoraphobic woman embarks on a cathartic journey along Canada’s East Coast to find her missing pregnant caregiver. Rate: Non union. Paid. Additional information: Location: Toronto. Outside GTA (TBC). Deadline for submission: NOVEMBER 15, 2024. Filming Dates: MARCH 2025 - APRIL 2025 (TBC). Professional and trained actors are preferred due to the complexity of the roles. However, non-professional actors who meet the character requirements are also encouraged to apply. Due to funding, preference will be given to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents. This film tells a story that reflects the Iranian-Canadian experience, and we encourage individuals from that community to participate. Iranian woman. Immigrated to Canada as a student. Native Persian speaker, fluent with no accent. Soraya is a delicately featured, elegant Iranian woman from a middle class family with an academic background in urban planning, navigating the emotional challenges of immigration, personal loss, and unfulfilled dreams while striving to reclaim her courage and confidence.
Iranian woman. Moved to Canada on a work visa. Native Persian speaker, fluent with no accent. Appears in the first half of the film. Shouka is a petite Iranian woman with expressive eyes, coming from a working class family, she is determined to escape her traditional upbringing while working as Soraya's caregiver, balancing her caring nature with ambition and occasional boundary issues.
Iranian man. Soraya's husband. Immigrated Canada as a student. Native Persian speaker, fluent with no accent. Amir is a handsome Iranian man in his 40s, an aspiring academic from a conservative family with a polished yet subtly tense demeanor. Driven by ambition, he often uses work as a retreat while navigating the pressures of his career and family responsibilities.
Iranian woman. Soraya's Mother. Lives in Iran, visiting Canada to see Soraya. Appears in four scenes. Simin is a medium-height, commanding retired school teacher from Tehran, a strong-willed and ambitious mother who value conformity and whose strict, perfec- tionist nature has profoundly impacted Soraya's life.
