Mary is a secondary character. Sister to Cathy.

The mother to Kendra & Cola. She is damaged goods, not by choice, but by the cruel hand of circumstance. Growing up in South Carolina. She was a teen mom when she had Kendra. She leaves Kendra with her mother to try to find a better life in DC. Cathy embodies the traditional values but understands that these same values have caused so much damage and is working through weaving out. Is viewed as negative, strict and harsh.

Always feeling like a burden to Cathy, Kendra was forced to forged a shield of resilience. Being Cola’s oldest sister, Kendra seems to be very bitter and angry with her mother. Kendra has a tendency of demoralizing her husband, Jaye. She usually finds herself keeping Cola’s secrets and avoiding her mother at all cost. When she is around her mother they are throwing shade and usually abrupts in some kind of argument. She is determined not be the mother she had but the mother she needed.

Being diagnosed with PCOS has realizes she has cracks and fractures, like her mother and sister..Cola struggles with depression and anxiety and lacks boundaries, constantly questions and reflects on her relationship with her own mother and the impact it has had on her life. Any insecurities that she didn’t know she had have all come to surface along with toxic traits.
