(Chinese, Fluent in Mandarin): A middle-aged Chinese immigrant in Canada is left emotionally shattered after a brutal assault. Her limited English, cultural stigmas around sexual assault, and traditional patriarchal values compound her isolation, trapping her between silence and her desire for justice in a foreign society.
A methodical and detached officer handling Fen’s case. They maintain a professional distance, treating the investigation routine as only intensifying Fen’s feelings of alienation, though not malicious.
Fluent in Mandarin. A calm, neutral individual whose presence is essential in bridging the language gap between Fen and Officer Marr. However, the emotional weight of Fen’s trauma and the cultural nuances of her experience are lost in translation, leaving her feelings of isolation intact despite their efforts.
