Casting Call for "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee"
Teens needed for "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee." Please find the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: Six awkward adolescents compete strenuously for the title championship, navigating their way through vexingly challenging vocabulary as they reveal the personal struggles and poignant disappointments of their personal lives. Additional info: 16-32 Bars of a contemporary musical theater song in the style of the show. Please bring sheet music in the key you will be singing in. An accompanist will be provided. You are also welcome to sing in the show, but you must bring the selection you are singing yourself. Sides from the show will not be provided at the initial call. Rehearsals will begin the week of January 27, 2025, and will generally rehearse Monday-Friday evenings. Technical rehearsals begin in late February, and performances will be March 6-9, 2025. Callbacks will be held on Saturday, November 16, as needed. Please bring a headshot and theatrical resume, if available. If you are interested please apply.

The number-one realtor in Putnam County, a former Putnam County Spelling Bee Champion herself, and the returning moderator. She is a sweet woman who loves children, but she can be very stern when it comes to dealing with Vice Principal Panch and his feelings for her. Her interest in the competition is unflagging and drives it forward. Range B3 – F5.
The Vice Principal. Frustrated with his life, he finds the drive of the young spellers alien to him. After five years’ absence from the Bee, Panch returns as judge. There was an “incident” at the Twentieth Annual Bee, but he claims to be in “a better place” now, thanks to a high-fiber diet and Jungian analysis. He is infatuated with Rona Lisa Peretti, but she does not return his affections. Comedic Improv skills needed. Vocal range N/A
The Official Comfort Counselor. An ex-convict, Mitch is performing his community service with the Bee, and hands out juice boxes to losing students. He has no idea how to offer comfort, but does find himself wishing he could find a way to make the kids feel better. E4 – A5.
