The company is holding auditions for "Sunday in the Park with George" and looking for performers, please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. About the project: Sunday in the Park with George is a musical about the life of painter Georges Seurat and his most famous work, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. The musical explores themes of art, change, and the relationship between art and commerce. Additional info: This show will be a stage concert with production elements for the Art in the Park event held January 11th and 12th, 2025. Please apply if interested.

Obsessive, detailed, and troubled, Seurat’s life is his art-- which means he often sacrifices the connections he makes personally; he is a true struggling artist who wants to share his life with others, but is unable to open himself up... except through his work. In Act I, this actor plays Dot, George Seurat’s mistress and model. She is headstrong, independent, funny, and lonely. George’s inability to connect on an honest level with Dot leads her to eventually leave him, despite her incredible love and respect for him. Only appears in Act I, 1884. A rival artist of George Seurat. He is more conventional than George, and much more commercially successful. Jules and George have an icy relationship, and Jules mocks George’s work often. Jules believes that George’s work lacks “life”-- it’s too calculated. Jules is wealthy and successful because he knows what sells. At times, he can be callous and shallow, even cruel. Jules is a poor husband to Yvonne and an even worse father to Louise. (Baritone)

Yvonne / Naomi ElsonFemale18-56 y.o.All ethnicities

Jules’ wife. Only appears in Act I, 1884. She is uptight and proper, and never lets her hair down. Her criticism of George Seurat’s art is stinging, witty, and pointed. Yvonne is very intelligent, but generally keeps quiet. Yvonne (rightly) doesn’t trust Jules, and her suspicion often overwhelms her and shuts her down. Yvonne may be critical of George’s work, but she finds common ground with Dot in their mutual struggles to love an artist. . (Mezzo-Soprano)

Only appears in Act I, 1884. A pretty boy military man on holiday from duty with his by his soldier friend (who happens to be a cardboard cutout). He yearns for freedom from silent soldier buddy and romance with one of the Celestes. May double as Alex in Act II; an artist, quite jealous of George’s success. (Baritone)

Only appears in Act I, 1884. A shop girl, giggly and frivolous. She and her friend, Celeste #2, love to gossip and flirt. She is judgmental and thinks that “artists are so crazy.” She and Celeste #2 get into a bit of a tiff when they compete for the affection of one of the soldiers. May double as Waitress in Act II. (Soprano)

Only appears in Act I, 1884. A shop girl. She and her friend Celeste #1 are flirtatious and gossipy. Their friendship is strained when the soldiers enter the picture. She’s judgmental and determined, and isn’t shy about speaking her mind about the soldiers: “The one on the right’s an awful bore.” May double as Elaine in Act II; George’s ex-wife, she remains supportive and friendly with George, but could not remain married to a man who is married to his work. Only appears in Act I, 1884. The assertive, no-nonsense, and attentive caretaker of the Old Woman. She also has an affair with Franz, the footman to Jules and Yvonne. While she is occasionally irritated with the Old Woman’s excessive demands, the Nurse is good at her job. May double as Harriet Pawling in Act II; a patron at the museum exhibition, really wants to see, but mostly to be seen, and Mrs. in Act I; half of an older American couple visiting Paris - Southern accent. George Seurat’s mother. Only appears in Act I, 1884. She is cranky, irritable, and has an aging brain. She is a fixture in the park, and enjoys her time there, reminiscing about her own past. Eventually, she helps George recognize the purpose in his art again. May double as Blair Daniels in Act II; an art critic, wise and warm, she helps George see his art in a new way. (Mezzo-Soprano)

Only appears in Act I, 1884.. A gruff, wise-cracking laborer. He is simple-minded, blunt, and a bit worse for wear. He is cynical about the Celestes (“silly little simpering shopgirls”) and artists (“condescending”) among many others. He’s most comfortable on a boat. May double as Charles Redmond in Act II; a visiting museum curator. (Baritone)

Franz / DennisMale18-56 y.o.All ethnicities

Only appears in Act I, 1884. Jules’ German coachman and husband to Frieda. He is dissatisfied with his job, and has a quick temper. He secretly has a crush on the Nurse. May double as Dennis in Act II; a technician and close friend to George (descendant of George Seurat); he is working to move into a new field, but feels held back by George’s struggle. (Baritone)

Frieda / Young Man / BettyFemale18-56 y.o.All ethnicities

Only appears in Act I, 1884. Jules’ and Yvonne’s German cook and wife to Franz. She is a loving woman who serves as a surrogate mother for Louise. She is unwillingly forced into an affair with Jules. German accent required. May double as Young Man in Act I and Betty in Act II; an artist at George’s showing. Witty and funny. (Soprano)
