About the project: Seeking a MULTI-ETHNIC cast with fantastic singing, acting and dancing abilities to play principal and supporting roles. SYNOPSIS: It's 1962 in Baltimore, and the lovable plus-size teen, Tracy Turnblad, has only one desire – to dance on the popular "Corny Collins Show." When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. She must use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob, Link Larkin, and integrate a TV network... all without denting her 'do! Rate: LORT-LOA **Total of 3-5 performances/week $530/week min for AEA actors + Pension/6 health weeks Non-union: Fee Minimum $2,200+ (based on role) The theatre anticipates having 4 total AEA contracts available for this production. Travel via MNR provided. Please note there is NO housing for this production. Theater is located 35 minutes from NYC. Additional info: 1st Rehearsal: November 25 (rehearses in NYC, within 10 am-6 pm range and actors only called when needed) Tech: Dec 7-12 in White Plains Shows: Dec 13-15, 18-22, 26-30, Jan 3-5 (3-5 performances/week) **Please note there are NO performances or rehearsals on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve/Day or New Years Eve/Day. Please bring any and all conflicts to the auditions and note that the rehearsal times may vary. You must be available for all shows and tech week to audition. (to play 18). Our story's unsuspecting protagonist, she is large and in charge. Confident, talented, and incredibly determined. A romantic with a good heart and desire to cut up the dance floor. Always on top of the latest trends. Vocal range bottom: G3-G5.
The charismatic host of the Corny Collins' Show. Good looking and smooth talking, he is a genuinely nice guy both on and off camera. Vocal range top: D3-A4.
Tracy's big and blonde mother. She is a working housewife who has lost her confidence and dream to be a plus-size clothing designer. Boisterous and commanding. Often played by a male in drag. Vocal range F3- G5.
(to play 18). Tracy's best friend and dorky sidekick. Not the brightest girl, but she has good intentions. Bursting to get free of her mother's dominating control, she falls for Seaweed with childlike curiosity. Vocal range A3-G5.
Amber's mother and the director of Corny Collin's show. She is a devious taskmaster and snobby racist. The former Miss Baltimore Crabs will go to any length to ensure her daughter is the next big thing. Vocal range G3- E5.
(to play 18). Link's girlfriend and Tracy's nemesis. She is pretty, thin, shallow, snobby, and racist. Can't dance but is expected to win Miss Baltimore Hairspray. Always feels the need to be the center of attention. Vocal range: A3- F5.
(to play 18). The star heartthrob on Corny Collins' show. He is extremely attractive and talented. Hoping to get his big break with a recording contract, he unexpectedly falls for Tracy. Vocal range G3- A5.
(to play 18). Tracy's classmate and friend, who is discriminated against due to his skin color. He is cocky but surprisingly lovable. Talented in song and dance. He falls for Penny. Vocal range : F3- D5.
Seaweed and Little Inez's mother, she also appears as the Guest DJ on the Corny Collin's Negro Day show. Big, blonde, beautiful and proud of it. She is sassy and confident. Vocal range top: F3- E5.
Tracy's simpleminded and kind father. He owns a joke shop and supports his daughter in spite of everything else. He also loves his wife, Edna, very much. Vocal range A3-A5.
Penny's strict mother. Very conservative, controlling, and closed minded. Vocal range top: D4- B4.
Ensemble. (NON UNION ONLY). To play “teens” that are excellent singers & dancers to play various roles in the show.
