About the project: Set in 1975, A Chorus Line examines one day in the lives of seventeen dancers, all vying for a spot in the “chorus line” of a Broadway musical. The show opens during an audition for an upcoming Broadway production. The formidable director Zach and his assistant choreographer Larry put the 24 dancers through their paces. Every dancer is desperate for work. After a round of cuts, 17 dancers remain. Zach tells them he is looking for a strong 8-member dancing chorus of four boys and four girls. Wanting to learn more about them, he asks the dancers to introduce themselves. Reluctantly, the dancers reveal their pasts. The stories generally progress chronologically from early life experiences through adulthood to the end of a career. Additional info: Show dates: February 13 - 23, 2025 Please prepare 32 Bars of a song from the show, that shows off your range. An accompanist will be provided. A dance combination will be taught. Director/Choreographer of the show. Strong, opinionated, was a great dancer in his time. He knows what he wants in life. Had a previous relationship with Cassie. Non-singing, but should have movement ability, as he demonstrates a few dance moves.
Zach’s trusted assistant. Tenor. All ethnicities. Has worked with Zach for a long time and knows his style and what to expect. Needs to be a great dancer, as he is the standard to which all of the auditioning dancers are held. Does not need a strong singing ability.
Range: A3-C#5 (opt. D#5). Soprano with a very strong mix. Returning to the chorus after years of being a featured performer. Extremely technical and skilled dancer. Strong willed & kindhearted. Previously had a relationship with Zach.
Range: G3-Bb4 (opt. E3). One of the most mature dancers on the line. Brassy, sexy, sassy and sophisticated. One of the more popular dancers, very funny.
Range: G#3-C#5. Mezzo. Sexy, sassy, funny & foul-mouthed. A brazen, direct, attention seeker from Vermont.
Range: G3-C#5 (opt. F#5).Alto. Streetwise, a little bit tough, eternal optimist and starry eyed. A determined athletic dancer from the Bronx
Range: G#3-C#5 (opt. E5). Mezzo. Funny, gawky, tall, nervous, scatterbrain. Warm and hopeful. Very awkward except when dancing.
Range: Cb4-Eb5. Mezzo Wideeyed, naïve. Very nervous when not dancing. Married to Al. Tone-deaf and not a great singer.
Range: A3-E5 (opt. A5). Soprano with very strong mix. A sweetheart, little sister type. Dreamer. Fairly experienced dancer from California.
Range: F#3-C#5. Alto. From Boston. Very insecure about her looks, very funny which is a cover for her insecurities. Feels a little bit excluded but just wants to be liked.
Range: C4-D5. Alto. Experienced dancer. Short (4’10”). Married. A bit of a mother hen with a great sense of humor. Born in Chinatown, Lower East Side, New York.
Range: F3-G#4. Tenor. Quite aggressive, determined, cocky, sure of himself but likeable. Athletic Tap dancer who worked with Zach before. Experienced and flirts with the girls. From New Jersey.
