About the project: Two immigrant friends return to their hometown of Houston, TX to help their families prepare for a rapidly approaching hurricane, while also confronting the reasons they left in the first place. (Supporting) Mexican, must speak Spanish. Gabriela’s Mother and her husband have no other family in Texas since crossing the border. Her and her husband have lived long enough in Pasadena to feel familiarity with nearby families and community organizers;
(Supporting) Filipino. Jonah’s Mother lives alone in her apartment, ever since her husband left and her younger son left for the army. She wishes that Jonah would visit Houston more often since the only other family she has is far away in Lubbock. The rest are in the Philippines, which she hasn’t seen in years; Jonah’s
(Supporting) Filipino. Jonah’s Father is only seen in flashbacks at a Filipino family party. Jonah watches as his Father attempts to socialize and be included with the rest of the Filipino adults and family; Cory’s
(Supporting) Filipino. Cory’s Grandfather no longer resides in Texas and is only seen during flashbacks to the early 2000s. He is close with his granddaughter Young Cory.
