Performers Needed for Spring Musicals
Auditions for Spring musicals. Looking for performers. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. See the breakdown below. About the project: "Don’t Touch That Dial": A fast-moving, nostalgic musical of hit show theme songs from television’s bygone golden age, presented as an audience participatory trivia contest. Lerner and Loewe’s "My Fair Lady": Professor Henry Higgins’ effort to teach young Cockney accent-speaking flower seller Eliza Doolittle how to speak like a proper lady to upgrade her station in life develops into an unlikely friendship. Eliza Doolittle’s journey at the hands of Henry Higgins from flower girl to society lady has been enjoyed worldwide since Lerner and Loewe’s My Fair Lady opened on Broadway March 15, 1956. It collected six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, while the film version took home eight Oscars, including Best Picture. Based on George Bernard Shaw’s play Pygmalion, and the 1938 film, Lerner & Loewe’s My Fair Lady is that rare musical by which all others are measured. Brimming with familiar songs, such as "Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?," "With A Little Bit of Luck," and "I Could Have Danced All Night," exciting ensemble numbers, and a witty script, this entertaining musical will delight audiences, both young and old. "The Lightning Thief, The Percy Jackson Musical": Based on the beloved novel by Rick Riordan, The Lightning Thief tells the story of Percy Jackson, son of Greek god Poseidon, as he sets out on a hero’s journey of self-discovery, grappling with monsters and mysterious mayhem along the way. The Lightning Thief is a story about identity, family, and community. Percy’s experience resonates across cultures! As the playwright, Joe Tracz, says, “[T]he characters in The Lightning Thief are gods and heroes - and gods and heroes can look like any of us.” Casting will reflect that truth. Directors are casting a group of actors, reflecting our community. All ensemble roles are open to include different shapes, abilities, ethnicities, and identities. Vocally, principal roles may require mature voices. The original production featured seven actors playing an entire Greek pantheon of characters; they will cast more, including puppeteers. The Lightning Thief will involve musical staging and stage combat with and without weaponry! Additional info: AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: Contemporary or Contemporary/Comedic Monologue: 60 seconds max. Male-presenting. Voice Range: Baritone-Tenor leading man; can also sing harmonies. Lives alone, a couch potato. Clearly watches too much television and spends all his free time in front of the TV. May even work remotely -- keeping the television on while he works to keep him company! Should feel like a person we all know or perhaps know someone just like him. Brian is an expert comedian – can mimic cartoon noises, make sound effects, get goofy. "Don’t Touch That Dial"
Female-presenting. Voice Range: Strong alto belt voice; can sing harmonies. A comfortable and classic looking housewife “type” – looks like she’s directly from a 70s sitcom – a Carol Burnett look, perhaps Mrs. Roper in Three’s Company with great comedic chops. Funny, rubber-faced, will do anything for a laugh. Becomes a Game Show Hostess for the “Name That Tune” section of the show. "Don’t Touch That Dial"
Female-presenting. Voice Range: Strong musical theater soprano; can sing harmonies. A classic “All-American Girl” - perhaps she’s Mary Tyler Moore from the Dick Van Dyke Show, perhaps she’s Gidget, perhaps she’s Goldie Hawn from Laugh-In….whatever her type, we feel we know her instantly. Sly and dry, her wit comes from a nod and a wink to the audience. Becomes a Game Show Hostess for the "Name That Tune" section of the show. "Don’t Touch That Dial"
Male-presenting. Voice Range: Baritone-Tenor; can also sing harmonies. Jolly, buoyant, and happy to be a part of it, he’s always ready to help our lead Brian when in crisis. Inventive and creative, can play both comic and straight man as needed. Bald is a plus, but not required. Perhaps Captain Stubing from Love Boat, perhaps Colonel Potter from M*A*S*H. Peter becomes Brian’s Game Show Announcer/Sidekick for the "Name That Tune" section of the show. "Don’t Touch That Dial"
(Offstage): male-presenting. Classic-sounding Game Show announcer but can switch to a Twilight-Zone eeriness on a dime. This role can either be pre-recorded or can be played live offstage. If pre-recorded, it’s best to do late in the rehearsal process to match the onstage action. "Don’t Touch That Dial"
