About the project: This classic drama is set in the Christmas Court of King Henry II as he grapples with questions of family, legacy, and disappointment. Show Synopsis from the Director: At its heart, The Lion in Winter is a family dramedy. An aging patriarch. Three sons competing for their fathers love and attention. A formidable "ex wife" and a much younger mistress, this is not a normal family though, this family includes the King of England, a Queen of both England and France, two future Kings of England and the reigning King of France. This play is an imagining of a family Christmas gathering. Additional info: A real actors show. This is a great opportunity to dig into complex roles and lush dialogue while working with a team that is dedicated to producing some of the best theatre around. Cast: Seven individually vital and compelling characters. A note on accents: This production will not be using special accents for these characters. An aging Queen. Henry's estranged wife, every inch his equal in wit and political savvy. Historically described as " brilliant, charming, much concerned with aging and an enormously troublesome wife.
Eleanor and Henrys eldest living son, the warrior of the brothers. Future King Richard Lion Heart. Really wants to be King. Eleanor's choice.
Eleanor and Henry's youngest and seemingly least capable son. Henry's choice. Future King John.
The middle and most cerebral brother. Knows he won't be King. Also knows you need to have a place to land when you're a "spare".
Henry's much younger mistress. Richards betrothed. Raised by Eleanor. Sister of the King of France.
King of France. A young King rising in power eager to stamp his place next to Henry. He needs Richard to be King and Alais to be Queen as Henry promised.
