Singers Needed for Gig "Godspell "
Searching performers for the "Godspell " play. Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: Godspell is a musical written by Stephen Schwartz and John-Michael Tebelak. It follows a group of people chosen by Jesus to be his disciples, learn the lessons of the parables, and to continue his teachings once he is gone. Loosely based on the gospel of Matthew, Godspell deals with the last days of Jesus and includes dramatized versions of several well-known Biblical stories. And yet it is something more - a religious experience, a demonstration of joy, and a celebration of the family of man. The cast is conceived as clowns, improvising scenery and costumes, and using many well-known theatrical devices, pantomime vaudeville, and varied musical styles to interpret one of humanity's greatest events. This is a really fun show (with some great music), there's plenty of opportunity to play, take risks, be silly, and to bring your own interpretation to the individual characters. However, Godspell is about the creation of a community, so a strong ensemble is key. There are no small roles, as everyone is involved in every part of the show, whether it be singing and dancing, telling the parables, or acting them out. 10 roles
(needs to be charismatic): Charismatic, high energy, charming, funny, gentle but with strength. The sort of person others instinctively follow.
Has attributes of both Biblical figures: They are both Jesus' lieutenant and most ardent disciple, and the doubter who begins to question and rebel. Like Jesus, they are charismatic, but in more of an 'overt revolutionary' way. The most "serious" and intellectual of the group, though must still possess a good sense of physical comedy.
VERY High energy. Impish and playful. Poppy voice.
(all good gifts): Not the brightest in the bunch, they are a little slow on the uptake. But there is a sweetness and innocence about them. Must be a good singer.
(Light of the world): The comedian, the class clown. The one who can do a hundred voices and imitations.
(Day by day): bit of a tomboy, but basically open and sweet. Perhaps the youngest of the group. She is the first of the group to commit to following Jesus.
(oh bless the lord): The confident one, the show off. the first one to volunteer, sometimes she jumps in before she really understands whats going on. Must be a strong singer.
(by my side): The shy one. Sometimes a little slow to get things, but when they do, they commit all the way. Has an 'earth mother' kind of warmth.
(Turn back o man): Sassy and slightly cynical, the most urban of the group. Also the 'cool one', but her coolness contains a large element of put-on.
(Learn your lessons well): The female equivalent of the class clown, goofy and a cut up. Rock voice.
