A cynical screenwriter. Tom is intelligent and blunt, but insecure, masking vulnerability with wit. After Tom’s one-hit-wonder theatrical play, he feels stuck in the world of screenwriting. He’s desperate for validation and wants to prove his worth.
Down-to-earth and warm, Kat is a beacon in Tom’s life during his artistic turmoil. Kat is a waitress wise beyond her years. She is content with her quiet life, but she dreams of finding her passion.
A pretentious novelist, Jerry is extremely protective of his work. He views Tom as inferior and doesn’t like the idea of his novel being adapted into a motion picture film, but he needs the money. Jerry’s brilliance as a writer is undercut by his disdain for others.
Independent and resolute, Florence is unimpressed by the men around her. She has no time for Jerry and his attitude. Florence behaves with self-preservation in mind. Her presence challenges the outdated masculinity Jerry represents.
