Theater Casting Call for "Much Ado About Nothing" Play
Directors are seeking performers for the production of "Much Ado About Nothing". More details are below. About the play: This production of Shakespeare’s famous comedy takes place in a universe where the late 1980s/early 1990s style mixes with today’s technology. The love of Hero and Claudio, (nearly crushed by Don John), the war-of-words between Beatrice and Benedict, and the incompetent (but ultimately successful) investigative work by Dogberry all unfold in the boardrooms, lobbies, and private corners of a dysfunctional office building. Come be a part of this colorful, energetic, and fun show. Additional information: Callbacks will be held on Friday, September 20 as needed. Auditions will be held in Dundas. The production runs from January 24 – February 9, 2025. Rehearsals start in October. Participants will be asked to perform readings from the script. A selection of the readings will be posted on this page in the near future for those who like to take a look beforehand, but no memorization or preparation is required.

Leading Role. Woman or non-binary. Leonato’s niece and Hero’s cousin. Beatrice is “a pleasant-spirited lady” with a sharp tongue. She is generous and loving, but, like Benedick, continually mocks other people with elaborate jokes and puns. She wages a war of wits against Benedick and often wins the battles.
Leading Role. Man or non-binary. An aristocratic businessman and friend of Don Pedro and Claudio. Benedick is very witty, always making jokes and puns. He carries on a “merry war” of wits with Beatrice, but at the beginning of the play, he swears he will never fall in love or marry.
Leading Role. A young businessperson who has won great acclaim working under Don Pedro during the recent merger. Claudio falls in love with Hero upon their return to Messina Inc.
Leading Role. The beautiful young heir of Leonato and the cousin of Beatrice. Hero is lovely, gentle, and kind. They fall in love with Claudio, but when Don John slanders them and Claudio rashly takes revenge, Hero suffers terribly.
Leading Role. An important executive from Aragon Media, sometimes called “Prince.” Don Pedro is a longtime friend of Leonato and is also close to the employees working under them—Benedick and Claudio.
Leading Role. A respected, well-to-do, elderly CEO at whose office at Messina Inc. the action is set. Parent to Hero and Beatrice’s uncle or aunt.
Leading Role. The illegitimate sibling of Don Pedro, sometimes called “the Bastard.” Don John is melancholy and sullen. They create a dark scheme to ruin the happiness of Hero and Claudio. They are the villain of the play.
Leading Role. The guard in charge of Watch Security at Messina Inc. Dogberry is very sincere and takes their job seriously but has a habit of using exactly the wrong words to convey their meaning.
Supporting Character. Leonato’s older sibling.
Supporting Character. Hero’s associate.
Supporting Character. Another one of Hero’s associates.
Supporting Character. One of Don John’s associates.
Supporting Character. Don Pedro’s assistant and a musician.
Supporting Character. Another one of Don John’s associates.
