About the project: Max, 17, a passionate table tennis player, struggles to balance his dreams of entering the Major Leagues with the demands of his family’s dumpling truck business. His mother constantly pushes him to prioritize college and work over his ping pong ambitions. As Max trains relentlessly for a critical tournament, he steals money from the cash box to buy a new paddle, only to be caught and confronted by his mother. This causes a complete rift between the two leaving the both of them at opposite ends of an argument which Grandpa gets in between. The story explores the conflict between following one's passion, the needs v.s. the wants in life, and fulfilling family responsibilities. When moving to America, she vowed to give Max a life she never got to have, but ever since Max’s dad left, she’s lost her ability to dream. All she wants is to keep running her dumpling business and make enough money to retire.
