"Anastasia" The Musical Casting Performers
Auditions for Fall 2024 production of "Anastasia". Looking for cast. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. Please see the breakdown below. Rate: Note this is a non paying community theater. Tips will be collected and divided amongst the actors at performances. Additional info: Performances November 22nd -24th. Rehearsals will begin the week of September 9th and run Mon-Thurs 6:30/7-10/10:30 PM. DIRECTORS WILL WORK AROUND ALL CONFLICTS INCLUDING HAUNT SCHEDULES AS LONG AS THEY KNOW UP FRONT. Actors will not be called to every rehearsal. CALLBACKS SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 7th. For the auditions please prepare 16 bars (approx 30 seconds) of a song in the style of the show or you may sing from the show if you prefer. Please bring sheet music in the correct key OR a karaoke track that can be played from your device and hooked up to a Bluetooth speaker. Accompanist and speaker will be provided. Please bring a hard copy headshot (or a recent photo) and resume if you have them. THERE WILL BE A MOVEMENT AUDITION SO PLEASE BRING CLOTHES YOU CAN MOVE IN. **PLEASE NOTE DIRECTORS ARE NOT LOOKING FOR CLONES OF THE MOVIE OR MUSICAL. DIRECTORS ARE LOOKING FOR THE BEST PEOPLE TO PORTRAY THESE ROLES REGARDLESS OF ETHNICITY, PHYSICAL TYPE, AGE, ASSIGNED AT BIRTH GENDER. Anya is brave, fiery, witty, and above all determined. With no memory of her life before age 17 and having lived through the Russian Revolution, Anya jumps at the sound of gunshots and is distrustful of strangers, but there is steel hiding just beneath the surface. Anya is strong-willed and compassionate. Her mantra, “Home, love, family” is her goal. All she knows is her family is in Paris. Strong actress and singer. Mezzo. Range: G3-F5, Belt to D5. Character presents as female.
Dmitry is a scoundrel with a heart of gold. Dmitry is a conman who does all he does to get out of poverty and is not above lying, cheating, and stealing to do so–until he meets Anya. What starts as just another scheme turns into the adventure of a lifetime that requires Dimitry to look inward and figure out how to put the one he loves before himself. Strong actor and singer. Tenor. Range: A2-G4. Character presents as Male.
Vlad is Dmitry’s partner in crime and surrogate father. Before the revolution, he scammed his way through society pretending to be a count. Vlad is dramatic, crafty, and a big softie at heart. While he, like Dmitry, is not above lying, cheating, and stealing, he cares greatly for his loved ones and is generally affable, though he can be calculating when he needs to be. Strong Actor and Singer. Comic Baritone. Range: A2-F4. Character presents as Male.
Lily is the lady in waiting to the Dowager Empress. She has been by the Dowager’s side since before the revolution. Lily is clever, dutiful, and fun (when not working for the Dowager). She deals with her exile from Russia with a resigned dark humor. She and Vlad were once an item (unbeknownst to her husband) and rekindle their romance upon meeting. Strong actor, singer and mover/dancer. Mezzo belter Range: G3-C5.
Gleb is the villain of the show, though not a bad person. He fully believes in the Communist ideals he follows. Loyal, honest, and hard-working, Gleb almost has the potential to be a hero. A deeply conflicted person, Gleb’s infatuation with Anya leads to his battle with the idea of doing one’s duty vs. doing what is right. Strong actor and singer. Baritone. Range: A2-Gb4. Character presents as Male.
The last Czar of Russia. Though a kind family man who loves his children he is woefully terrible as a leader and easily swayed and manipulated by his advisors. Believes he is chosen by God to lead Russia. Strong actor and singer. Character presents as male.
The Czarina of Russia. A descendant of Queen Victoria, Alexandra is beautiful, graceful and very religious. She is a stern mother. Her trust and devotion in Rasputin leads to the Romanov family’s downfall. Strong singer, actor and mover. Character presents as female.
A noble fleeing Russia. Sings “Say I Pray You”. Gorgeous lyric tenor or mezzo. Will double in the ensemble. Character presents as Male.
