On the eve of their deployment to a small but growing conflict in Southeast Asia, three young Marines set out for one final boys' night of debauchery, partying and maybe a little trouble. But, when Corporal Eddie Birdlace meets Rose, an awkward and idealistic waitress whom he enlists to win a cruel bet with his fellow recruits, she rewrites the rules of the game and teaches him the power of love and compassion. Tenor. A newly-minted Marine private and a leader amongst his friends. Initially a cocky smooth-talker, he reveals a softer side during his encounter with Rose. (Content warnings: Use of racial slurs, onstage intimacy)
Mezzo-Soprano. An awkward diner waitress and aspiring musician. Her experience with the Marines’ cruelty awakens an inner strength and self-confidence she didn’t know she had. Ability to play or learn guitar is required. (Content warnings: Onstage intimacy)
Baritenor. Birdlace’s fellow Marine and close friend. An obnoxious, crude Southern boy and ringleader of the dogfight. (Content warnings: Use of ableist and sexist slurs)
Tenor. The third member of the “Three Bees” trio, he is Birdlace’s good friend. Somewhat nerdy and inexperienced with women, he wants to impress his peers. (Content warnings: Sexual assault)
Soprano. A streetwise and cynical prostitute who accompanies Boland to the dogfight. She tries to offer Rose her advice on life.

Rose’s protective mother who wants to keep her daughter from getting hurt.
Acts as performer and judge at the dogfight. Doubles as a bus passenger to whom Eddie tells the story in the show’s framing device.
A prostitute visited by the Marines. One of the ‘dates’ will double in this role. (Content warnings: Sexual assault)
Will learn multiple show tracks and perform in case of an absence. Swings will also have the option to participate in the show in a production capacity.
