About the project: Eli, a timid young boy, discovers Marley, a young outgoing deaf girl, reading in his grandmother Alma's bookstore. After Marley accidentally leaves her notebook behind, Eli embarks on a quest to find her and return it, encountering numerous obstacles along the way. Discouraged upon returning home, Alma tries to cheer him up, but their spirits lift when a knock at the door reveals Marley, allowing Eli to return her notebook and forge a heartwarming connection. Alma is the eclectic grandma with a playful personality and glass-half-full attitude. She approaches life with a sense of humor and positivity, seeing the bright seeing the bright side in every situation. Eli is the center of her world, and she would do anything to protect and support him. However, she is keenly aware that Eli’s shyness holds him back from experiencing many things that other kids his age would typically enjoy.
Mrs. Quincy is an elderly woman who has known Eli since he was a child and shares a profound bond with Alma, their friendship spanning decades. In doing so, she not only leans on him for practical assistance but also fulfills the role of a wise and nurturing mentor in his life, offering quiet words of wisdom and comfort as they navigate this poignant task together.
A clumsy yet endearing bakery owner, well-acquainted with Alma, often trades his delectable baked goods for her intriguing books. Despite his forgetful nature, he has a heart of gold and never intends any harm. His gentle demeanor and genuine efforts to assist Eli showcase his warmth and kindness, making him a beloved figure in the community.
ADDITIONAL CHARACTER. Age for actor: 30-40s. Joyce is Marley's mother and is a sweet and kind woman. With her daughter being deaf she is very activity in her community to raise awareness. Joyce is also is very appreciative of Alma hospitality.
