"SOFONISBA" 1st Rehearsal: week of Mar. 17, 2025; Tech: Apr. 5-6, 2025; Previews: Apr. 10-12, 2025; Opening: Apr. 13, 2025; Closing: May 4, 2025. Rate: SPT $512 weekly minimum (SPT 5). Additional info: Actors will be seen on a first come, first served basis, upon checking in at the holding area on the day of the audition. Doors will open for sign-up at 10:30 am. Prepare a brief monologue, showing verbal/mental dexterity. We prefer that you avoid Shakespeare. Also, please bring your headshot and resume stapled together. Actors from the DC/MD/VA area are encouraged to audition. An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition. Apply, if interested.

"FAITHLESS" Male presenting. A retired insurance adjustor and avowed atheist. Practical, stubborn.
"FAITHLESS" Female-presenting. Gus’s stepdaughter, a twice-divorced, childless high school teacher. Somewhat aimless, acid-tongued, and forthright.
"FAITHLESS" Male presenting. Gus’s stepson, a Presbyterian minister. Even-keeled, almost to the point of being milquetoast. Devoted to his beliefs.
"FAITHLESS" Female-presenting. Gus’s adopted daughter. Impressionable, but just starting to assert herself and stand up for what she believes in. Actors of color are encouraged to audition.
"SHAW’S SHORTS" The MANAGER in INTERLUDE – boastful, anxious & easily distracted; GENERAL MADIGAN in O’FLAHERTY – a very proper British baronet; and the BEEFEATER in DARK LADY – an opportunistic palace guard.
"SHAW’S SHORTS" The MANAGER’S WIFE in INTERLUDE – a dutiful wife with more nerve than her husband; MRS. O’FLAHERTY in O’FLAHERTY – a formidable and passionate Irish patriot who dominates her son; and QUEEN ELIZABETH in DARK LADY – imperious, regal, and ultimately compassionate.
"SHAW’S SHORTS" DENNIS O’FLAHERTY in O’FLAHERTY - a brave rapscallion and a generally cheerful fellow with unconventional opinions; and SHAKESPEAR in DARK LADY – a bold & creative romantic.
"SHAW’S SHORTS" The STAGE MANAGER in INTERLUDE – an efficient professional; TERESA in O’FLAHERTY - a materialistic parlor maid, out to get what she can for herself; and the DARK LADY in DARK LADY – a passionate, jealous mistress and loyal subject.
"SOFONISBA" (female presenting) - Court painter to King Philip II of Spain who becomes a confidant to the Queen. Reserved, but not afraid to speak her mind.
"SOFONISBA" (female presenting) - Queen of Spain, Philip’s second wife. A bit of a chatterbox, but she commands space and is guileless in her occasional imperiousness.
"SOFONISBA" Various roles, including: BISHOP ESPINOZA - Serious and paternal, upholds classism; KING PHILIP II of SPAIN - A good husband, but still a king; DON FRANCISCO a tragically earnest Sicilian son of a prince with a stutter; ORAZIO LOMELLINO – a ship’s captain, handsome, charming and strong; and THE FOOL – ageless, Scottish, and supremely witty.
