About the project: Against the backdrop of the Gay Liberation Movement of the 1970s, a pastor’s daughter begins a high-stakes clandestine relationship with another girl, a rebellious outcast, while working in their small town’s flower shop, the summer before going off to college. Lead. The senior class president and daughter of the town pastor, Sam is an overachieving girl-next-door secretly grappling with the realization that she is a lesbian. She has had her future planned out for her since birth, and is afraid to do anything that strays from the path she has been taught to want and the high expectations placed on her that, up until now, she has met.
Lead. New to town and as unapologetically queer as possible for a teenager in 1977, Renee is a rebellious, nonconforming punk rocker with big city dreams. With a natural charisma to her, she guards her emotions from the world behind a hardened exterior, only revealing her true self to a select few, which eventually includes Sam.
