"Shakespeare in Hollywood" Stage Play Casting Actors
Auditions for "Shakespeare in Hollywood" play. Looking for cast. Please see the breakdown below. About the project: SYNOPSIS: It’s 1934, and Shakespeare’s most famous fairies, Oberon and Puck, have magically materialized on the Warner Bros. Hollywood set of Max Reinhardt’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Instantly smitten by the glitz and glamour of show biz, the two are ushered onto the silver screen to play (who else?) themselves. With a little help from a feisty flower, blonde bombshells, movie moguls, and arrogant “asses” are tossed into loopy love triangles, with raucous results. The mischievous magic of moviedom sparkles in this hilarious comic romp. Rate: All roles are volunteer. Additional info: TO PREPARE: Bring your up-to-date resume, recent headshot, and a list of your conflicts. Be prepared to do cold readings from the script. 18 roles
King of the Fairies (not that kind) — most famous from Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” Imperious, impatient, and commanding. Child like temper and a sense of whimsy about him.
Shrewd and knavish sprite. Mischief maker of the fairy world. Enjoys pranks but is good natured at heart. The character of Puck is male, and everyone in the play interests with him as such, but, in the Shakespearean tradition, a female actress will play the role
Pixie-ish man, German accent, film director who fled Austria due to concerns over the Nazis. Really just wants to make his movie and is a little concerned that others are underestimating the Nazi threat.
Sharp dresser, tough as nails Warner Brothers studio head.
Beautiful blond starlet, star of several successful and popular films, sweet, but whiny — “show girl” voice. Jack Warner’s girlfriend.
Younger actress — Has the sass, beauty and natural charm of a heroine from the screwball comedies of the 1930s… Speaks with a stereotypical “Brooklyn actress” accent.
Actor, good looking, boyish charm. All around nice guy, smitten with Olivia.
The #1 gossip columnist, and entertainment reporter in Hollywood. Loves to be an “insider” in the world of showbiz.
Studio assistant to Jack Warner Typical “yes man”.
Creator of the “Production Code” which is a set of rules to “protect the American public so that movies do not contain anything vulgar, salacious, profane or obscene”. Full of bluster and vanity. Wields immense power in Hollywood and knows it.
Good natured fellow with a wide grin who always looks bemused and slightly baffled by life. His last 3 films have been “baseball movies”.
(Mid 30s): He’s Jimmy Cagney, what else do you need to know? Famous movie star, known for gangster pictures. Despite his image playing tough guys, he’s very like-able.
