Audition for Musical "The Wild Party"
Seeking strong singers, dancers, and actors of all ages and ethnicities for the 2024 production of Andrew Lippa’s "The Wild Party". ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. Please see the details below. About the project: SYNOPSIS: In this steamy prohibition tale, vaudeville performers Queenie and Burrs decide to throw the party-to-end-all-parties in their Manhattan apartment. As their guests arrive — each living life on the edge and more intriguing than the last — Queenie spies the striking Mr. Black. As her pursuit of Black and the swirling decadence of the party reach their climax, so does Burrs’ jealousy. What ensues leaves everyone asking “How did we come to this?” Additional info: Directors welcome all abilities regardless of race, gender, age, religion, sexual orientation, disability, and/or personal background over 18 years old. Please prepare a brief excerpt (32 bars maximum, please) of a song in the style of the show or one from the show is acceptable. Please place your sheet music in a three ring binder. Bring your binder (with other sheet music of songs you are prepared to sing) in case you are asked to sing a second selection. An accompanist will be provided. **Video submissions will be considered if you are unable to attend vocal auditions, but it is strongly recommended that you are able to attend in person and for callbacks. CALLBACKS: Wednesday, July 16 (and Thursday, July 17 if needed) – (by invitation), 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm. Please keep these times available in case you are called back, or include it as a conflict on your audition sheet if you cannot make it. Callbacks will consist of choreography and vocal selections from the show. PRODUCTION DATES: Rehearsal Dates: July 21 – September 12, 2024. Typical Rehearsal Times: Sunday- Thursday evenings 6:30-9:30 pm (Other times may be added, but will be with sufficient notice.) (G5-F3): Strong, handsome, and poised without being posed. An enigmatic loner. Protective. No-nonsense kind of guy who cannot understand Queenie’s attraction to Burrs.
(A5-G3): Handsome. A professional clown. Dangerous and charming all at once. Sexually ravenous and drawn to Queenie like a moth to the flame. Hurts somewhere deep inside, and slowly descends into jealous insanity.
(A5-A3): A party-goer pitching ideas and hoping to score with Sam. A wild woman of the night.
(A5-A3): Mae’s husband who is perhaps even more dim-witted than she is. A big oaf. Can be a lovable teddy bear but also a quick tempered brute. Adores his wife.
(E5-F3): A lush. Likes to be the “life of the party.” Always looking out for number one, and is jealous of Queenie. Sexy, sensual, and confident.
(E5-A3): A tired woman with even more tired eyes and a cruel mouth. An announced lesbian. Sexually hungry. Blunt and very dry.
(D5 – A3): Eddie’s wife. Sweet and beautiful, but not particularly bright. Adores her husband and dotes on him.
(A5-A3): Busy producer and “attention whore.” Trying to avoid the outrageous pitches made by Dolores, until it becomes sexual.
(B5-A3): Phil’s brother and lover who dresses as his twin. A composer and an entertainer in every sense of the word. Very flamboyant.
(A5-A3): Oscar’s brother and lover who dresses as his twin. A composer and an entertainer in every sense of the word. Very flamboyant.
(F5-F3): Blonde and beautiful. Sexy. Looks a little older and more tired than her age would indicate. Afraid of being alone. Has become addicted to Burrs’ presence and ravenous sexual appetite.
(A5-A3): The only minor at the party. Waifish and somewhat naïve. She is in over her head and trying to keep up.
(B5- A3): One of the party goers and a member of the usual “gang.” He is full of life and energy.
