(Female presenting, lead role) A former southern belle, Blanche arrives in New Orleans after losing her job and family home under suspicious circumstances. A fragile dreamer, she uses her fancy demeanor and femineity to attract others, but she gradually loses her hold on reality and the future. While there is no nudity, Blanche may be partially clothed (in a slip or robe) on stage during some scenes. This role requires theatrical intimacy and is the subject of stage violence.
(Male presenting, lead role) Blanche's brother-in-law, Stanley is a working-class son of immigrants, representing the new south and the cultural shift the region was seeing. He is crude and violent, but with a vibrancy and magnetism that draw people to him. His street-level intelligence and rejection of Blanche and her fantasies provide a lot of the play's conflict. While there is no nudity, Stanley may be partially clothed on stage during some scenes.
(Female presenting, lead role) Blanche's sister and Stanley's wife. Stella was raised more well off, contrasting with her rough husband and course neighbors, but she is more passionate and milder compared to Blanche. She is concerned about the future, but desperately in love with her husband. While there is no nudity, Stella may be partially clothed on stage (in a slip or robe). This role requires theatrical intimacy and is the subject of stage violence.
(Male presenting, supporting role) Stanley's co-worker and poker buddy, "Mitch" is more awkward that Stanley and lives with his aging mother. More sensitive than his friends, he is entranced by Blanche and pursues a doomed romance with her. This role requires theatrical intimacy and is involved in stage violence.
(Female presenting, supporting role) Married to Steve, Eunice is the Kowalski's neighbor and advisor to Stella. She is crude and tough, but good- hearted. This role requires theatrical intimacy and is the subject of stage violence.
(Male presenting, supporting role) Married to Eunice, Steve is the Kowalskis neighbor and poker buddy. He is crude, tough and abusive to his wife. This role requires theatrical intimacy and is involved in stage violence.
(Male presenting, supporting role) A working class friend of Stanley and Mitch, he plays poker with them in multiple scenes and punctuates conversation with Spanish. This part may double with another role or act in an ensemble role.
(Female presenting, cameo role) A friend of Eunice seen in the first scene. She is a bit crude and has 'seen it all.' This part may double with another role or act in an ensemble role.
(Male presenting, cameo role). Appears in one scene collecting money for the newspaper. During the scene, Blanche flirts and kisses him. Because of the theatrical intimacy, we're looking to cast a younger appearing actor over the age of 18. This part may double with another role or act in an ensemble role.
(Female presenting, cameo role) Appears in one scene selling flowers for the dead. This part may double with another role or act in an ensemble role.
(Male presenting, cameo role). Appears in final scene to collect Blanche. He provides a slice of hope for her in the final moment. This part may double with another role or act in an ensemble role..
