Auditions for 'The Wizard of OZ' RSC Version
Audition Dates: Sunday, July 7, 2024 from 7-10 PM Monday, July 8, 2024 from 7-10 PM The Wizard of Oz is the perfect holiday treat for family and friends! Come follow the Yellow Brick Road in this musical extravaganza that is sure to be a huge hit this season. This is the Royal Shakespeare Company version that premiered in 1987 and includes the additional verse of “Over the Rainbow” as well as “The Jitterbug” which was cut from the 1939 film version. This full version will be performed at Manatee Performing Arts Center for the very first time. -The Wizard of Oz opens Thursday, December 5, 2024, and is scheduled for a two-week run. The show may be extended if there is a demand. -Rehearsals are scheduled to begin the week of October 6th. The exact start date will be determined after auditions are completed, but note that there will be rehearsals over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The Wizard of Oz is open to children aged 6 and up. The child must turn 6 prior to October 1st.

Female-15-25 (Mezzo/Mix) Young Kansas girl, earnest, expressive, and strong-willed, in search of something more. Very strong singer who moves well. Must love dogs and not be allergic. Vocal range top: B5 Vocal range bottom: C4
Male, Baritone (plays double role) Scarecrow is plucky and clever in a pinch, even while lacking a brain. Strong actor with an honest quality. Good dancer-acrobatic skills a bonus. Strong baritone to F
Male, Baritone/Tenor (plays double role) -Desperate for a heart. A kind-hearted romantic. Singing and dancing required. Tap skills a bonus. Strong baritone/tenor to G.
Male, Baritone (plays double role) -A mix of bravado and cowardice. Should move well. Big voice with excellent comic timing. Strong baritone to F.
Female (Non-singing role) -Character villain with an over-the-top stage presence. She is crafty and vane. Excellent comic actress; has a killer cackle. Not afraid of heights. Miss Gulch is a well-off, cold-hearted neighbor of Dorothy who hates Toto.
Male (non-singing role) -A traveling salesman who lives by telling fortunes; a con man but with a good heart. Older father figure with an eccentric flair. The Wizard must have a strong commanding voice. Basic conjuring or sleight of hand a bonus. Also a con man with a good heart.
Female, Mezzo Soprano -Good Witch of the North who is the mother figure for the Munchkins and Dorothy whom she guides through Oz. Benevolent and beloved. Some comic abilities. Strong singer. Not afraid of heights.
Female (Ensemble singing/movement) -A typical, hard-working farmer’s wife who is firm & no-nonsense but warm and caring. She is Dorothy’s aunt.
Kansas farmer whose wife, Em, runs things. Adoring uncle to Dorothy. Comical Oz guard who gets flustered and bossy, then turns into a crying softy.
People who live in Munchkinland where Dorothy’s house lands after the cyclone; enthusiastic and joyful. Long oppressed, and happy to be freed, the Munchkins will (mostly) be played by children. Group singing and coordinated movement required. Dance experience a plus. There are some featured roles among the munchkins, such as The Coroner, The Lollipop Guild, and The Lullaby League. Boys and girls 4-10.
Adults and teens, age 14+. The adult chorus of the show, with featured speaking/vocal/dancing roles available. Singing and movement are required.
