Chief of Staff. A political bulldog who has chosen every aspect of her life, appearance, and personality in service of her career. A sexless and humorless middle-aged woman who lives and dies by the polls. Starts the play at a 7 and skyrockets from there. Everything is a means to the end. "POTUS"
Press Secretary. A hawk in a turtleneck. A high-strung, quick-witted woman who can handle any pressroom and sterilize any scandal. A single working mother whose pristine life is threatened only by her knee-weakening attraction to disastrous sexual partners—one, in particular. Harriet’s more polished and more tactful counterpart. Think CJ from West Wing, but with more bite, cynicism, and learned paranoia. "POTUS"
President’s sister. A total trash fire. Strife and mayhem. A drug-fueled tornado with raw sexual charisma, fiery temper, and fantastic sense of humor. Jean’s kryptonite. "POTUS"
The President’s young mistress. A glowing, curious, sex-positive girl with a multitude of skills and a bright future! Loves civic duty! Loves democracy! Determined to make the world better! "POTUS"
Presidential secretary. An obedient and diminutive millennial, terrified of failure and perpetually on the edge of nervous breakdown. Deeply brilliant, just crippled by her own imposter syndrome. So much potential energy and rage just waiting to be set free. "POTUS"
The First Lady. An impeccable combination of high fashion, corporate experience, and legal savvy. Regal, sophisticated, brimming with bitterness and pent-up rage. Goes for the jugular. "POTUS"
A journalist. Overburdened, under-slept, postpartum, newly-divorced, on the brink of irrelevance. A dogged reporter with much to gain and everything to lose. "POTUS"
He has been at Shawshank since he was 20 - an “Institutional Man.” He is charismatic but cynical. Pragmatic but jaded. He also acts as the narrator, which makes him serve as an observer to his own life and others. "The Shawshank Redemption"
Andy was a banker on the outside. He is accused of killing his wife and her lover. He was convicted because he was seen as cold and detached. Andy is really thoughtful and strategic. In either case, he is calculated and targeted in his words and actions. Andy should be notable for how he differs from the rest of his inmates. He personifies hope in a hopeless place. Note: Actor participates in simulated violence and rape scenes. "The Shawshank Redemption"
Warden Stammas is in charge of Shawshank prison. He is, first and foremost, a cheat and a hypocrite. He is quick to put on a display of charity or empathy, but he is always out for himself. The inmates of Shawshank are a fact of his situation to be exploited. Warden Stammas portrays that of a devout Christian, but is quick to cruelty to anybody that runs afoul of him, and he runs several scams out of Shawshank prison. "The Shawshank Redemption"
Hadley is the “tightest screw that ever walked a turn at Shawshank.” He is blunt and has a short temper, even when things are going his way. The inmates fear him. The other guards tiptoe around him. The whole world is out to get him, so he takes the chance to use Shawshank to exert his authority. "The Shawshank Redemption"
Entwisle is the “other” prison guard (besides Hadley). He tries to emulate Hadley’s demeanor from time to time, but the inmates see through him. Entwistle is a ‘good’ prison guard. "The Shawshank Redemption"
Within the Shawshank prison community, Bogs is Andy Dufresne’s foil. Like Andy, he is cold and calculated. But unlike Andy, instead of rising above the Shawshank environment, Bogs has embodied it. He is the leader of “The Sisters” and recognizes Andy’s type immediately. Bogs decides to break Andy both physically and intellectually, menacing him with both rape attempts and chess challenges. Note: Actor participates in simulated violence and rape scenes. "The Shawshank Redemption"
Brooksie has been incarcerated since the 1920s. He’s one of the only college educated inmates, so he runs the library before Andy arrives. Brooks is a model prisoner, but under the surface he represents the hopelessness of Shawshank, because he is fearful of Andy’s proposed changes to the library. He becomes unhinged when finally paroled. Brooks is the bird who never sees beyond his cage. "The Shawshank Redemption"
Rooster was a drug addict on the outside. He killed his stepson with a claw hammer when he threatened to tell his mother about Rooster’s sexual advances. Rooster loves Shawshank because it gives him status and an environment for his sexual violence with men. Note: Actor participates in simulated violence and rape scenes. "The Shawshank Redemption"
Rico is entered into Shawshank at the same time as Andy Dufrense and Pinky. He is a born-again Christian whose defining features are his piety, naivety, and sexual repression, which first results in him being targeted by “The Sisters” and later results in a fixation with “Lady Chatterly’s Lovers.” Note: Actor participates in simulated violence and rape scenes. "The Shawshank Redemption"
Tommy was raised in an orphanage. He’s been in and out of bad situations his entire life. He is brash with a good heart but very little in the way of prospects, so he took up car theft until he married and had a child. Tommy wants to be better but he doesn’t know how until he meets Andy Dufresne. Andy helps Tommy get his school equivalency, and in turn, Tommy discovers that he has information that can help Andy. Must be charismatic and energetic. "The Shawshank Redemption"
Dawkins is best described as an ordinary decent criminal. "The Shawshank Redemption"
Pinky is a minor character that doubles as other characters, as needed, such as “The Cook.” "The Shawshank Redemption"
Smart, likable, positive, passionate, fit, highly-energized, pregnant PhD candidate and gardener. "Native Gardens"
Smart, likable, ambitious, savvy, young attorney. "Native Gardens"
Smart, likable, assertive, direct, no-nonsense engineer. "Native Gardens"
Smart, likable, excitable, caring, detail-oriented federal employee and gardener. "Native Gardens"
An upstanding and stern Christian woman. Mother to Kenny and Simone, and wife to Reginald. She’s overbearingly full of love, but quite uptight and stubborn in her religious ways. "Chicken and Biscuits"
Baneatta’s faithful husband and the new pastor of their home church. He’s the peace-maker of the family. Reginald is a ball of love with a side of corny dad jokes. "Chicken and Biscuits"
Baneatta and Reginald’s youngest child. He’s proudly queer, but cowers in the presence of his mother. Kenny bites when he needs to, but at the end of the day he just wants to be loved. "Chicken and Biscuits"
Kenny’s neurotic and dramatic Jewish boyfriend of four years. He often spins himself into a tizzy, but always wants to be there for Kenny. Logan’s weed pen is his crutch for tough times. "Chicken and Biscuits"
Baneatta’s younger sister. The “fun Aunt” who’s always in a push-up bra. But don’t mistake her vibrance for incompetence. She’s savage, “classy,” not so boujee, but definitely ratchet when necessary. "Chicken and Biscuits"
15. Beverly’s daughter. She’s noisy, loud, and in everyone else’s business but her own. When not on her phone, she shows love - but in her own Gen Z way. Sarcasm is her love language. "Chicken and Biscuits"
Kenny’s older sister and Baneatta’s favorite. She followed the “right path.” Though pulled, she can be shady. While fierce on the exterior, Simone is internally wounded from a recent failed engagement. "Chicken and Biscuits"
Baneatta and Beverly’s half sister through an affair. She didn’t know her father, but has come to his funeral to gather more details about him. She’s sweet, vulnerable, and collected. "Chicken and Biscuits"
TBA.
