About the project: SUMMARY: In a Berlin nightclub, during the twilight of the Jazz Age, an eccentric Master of Ceremonies welcomes the audience and assures them they will forget their troubles. With the Emcee’s bawdy songs as wry commentary, CABARET explores the dark, heady, and tumultuous life of Berlin’s natives and expatriates as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich. Cliff, a young American writer newly arrived in Berlin, is immediately taken with English singer Sally Bowles. Meanwhile, Fräulein Schneider, proprietor of Cliff and Sally’s boarding house, tentatively begins a romance with Herr Schultz, a mild-mannered fruit seller who happens to be Jewish. CABARET (1998 Version) is the winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Additional info: The production team is seeking a cast of performers that is representative of the Indianapolis community—inclusive of ALL ethnicities, body types, gender identities, sexual orientations, and abilities. Must be 18 or older to be cast. You only need to attend one of these audition days. Please come prepared to sing 16-32 bars from a song appropriate for the style of CABARET (but nothing from the show, please) that shows off your vocal talent, with sheet music in the correct key. An accompanist will be provided. After singing, you will have the opportunity to read a provided side from the script. Once everyone has sung and read, the choreographers will teach the dance portion of the audition. If you are not seeking a role that dances, you are free to leave after singing and reading; please inform on-site staff. Callbacks will happen on 6/25. Rehearsals are scheduled to begin in early July 2024. Production dates are September 20-22, 26-29, and October 3-6, 2024. You will be able to list all known conflicts on the audition form that you will fill out at the audition. There are no conflicts allowed from September 14 through the end of the run, and once cast, performers will not be allowed to add extra conflicts. If you are interested, please apply.

A landlady who rents rooms to Cliff, Sally, and several other characters in her large flat. She is alone and is resigned to her place in life but secretly longs for companionship.
