Musical Audition For "Willy Wonka" Production in VA

The mysterious title character. He is charming. enigmatic, charismatic, engaging, mysterious and slightly sinister. A chocolatier who guides children and their parents on a tour of his factory. He is looking for someone new to take over his candy empire. This actor should be both funny and serious and have the ability to change between the two on a dime.

A local candy vendor. He leads the children in praising the joys of candy. He should be pleasant, charismatic, and friendly. The Candyman Sings the song "the Candy Man" and has some scene work with Charlie. Wonka is often double cast as the Candy Man.

A caring, patient, and kindhearted man. Loving Grandfather to Charlie Bucket. He accompanies Charlie to Willy Wonka's factory and it gives him a new burst of youthful vigor.

The reporter covering the Golden Ticket story. He or she announces the winners of the Golden Ticket contest throughout the show. Phineous is engaging and should have great comedic timing.

Charlie Bucket's nurturing father. He is always trying to maintain an energetic positivity. Mr. Bucket performs the number "Think Positive" with Charlie and sings "Cheer Up Charlie" with Mrs. Bucket. He can double as a member of the ensemble in Act II.

A plump, jolly German woman with a bustling personality. Augustus Gloop's overindulgent mother. German accent preferred, but not required.

A wealthy British upperclassman who regularly flaunts his wealth and privilege. Father to Veruca Salt who shamelessly spoils his daughter. British accent preferred, but not required.

An old-fashioned housewife. She is Mike Teavee's permissive and clueless mother. She joins Mike in singing the song "I See it all on TV".

Violet's enthusiastic "helicopter parent" who focuses all her attention on her daughter. She is a geography teacher and indulges Violet's worst competitive impulses. Southern accent preferred, but not required.

Charlie's three grandparents. They are innately interesting, have fantastic comedic timing, and are solid actors.
