The play’s secondary hero. Algernon is a charming, idle, a decorative bachelor, nephew of Lady Bracknell, cousin of Gwendolen Fairfax, and best friend of Jack Worthing, whom he has known for years as Ernest. Algernon is brilliant, witty, selfish, and immoral. "THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST"

Algernon’s cousin and Lady Bracknell’s daughter. Gwendolen is in love with Jack, whom she knows as Ernest. A model and arbiter of high fashion and society, Gwendolen speaks with unassailable authority on matters of taste and morality. She is sophisticated, intellectual, cosmopolitan, and utterly pretentious. Gwendolen is fixated on the name Ernest and says she will not marry a man without that name. Jack’s ward, the granddaughter of the old gentlemen who found and adopted Jack when Jack was a baby. Like Gwendolen, she is obsessed with the name Ernest, but she is even more intrigued by the idea of wickedness. This idea, rather than the virtuous-sounding name, has prompted her to fall in love with Jack’s brother Ernest in her imagination and to invent an elaborate romance and courtship between them. Algernon’s snobbish, mercenary, and domineering aunt and Gwendolen’s mother. Lady Bracknell married well, and her primary goal in life is to see her daughter do the same. She has a list of “eligible young men” and a prepared interview she gives to potential suitors. Like her nephew, Lady Bracknell is given to making hilarious pronouncements, but where Algernon means to be witty, the humor in Lady Bracknell’s speeches is unintentional. Cecily’s governess. Puritan though she is, Miss Prism’s severe pronouncements have a way of going so far over the top that they inspire laughter. Despite her rigidity, Miss Prism seems to have a softer side. Also, she entertains romantic feelings for Dr. Chasuble. "THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST"

The rector on Jack’s estate. Both Jack and Algernon approach Dr. Chasuble to request that they be christened “Ernest.” Dr. Chasuble entertains secret romantic feelings for Miss Prism. "THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST"

Also known as Robin Goodfellow, Puck is a mischievous older student (or, is he?) in the orphanage who delights in playing pranks. He must connect not only to both worlds on-stage, but the audience as well. "A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM"

A young teacher at the school. He is in love with Hermia, but the school is against them marrying. With the help of the students, he persuades Hermia to run away with him and into the forest. "A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM"

Another young teacher at the school— after having the approval of the school board, he hopes to marry Hermia, but she’s not interested! "A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM"

A young teacher at the school. Demetrius AND Lysander are in love with her. However, she is strong-willed and independent, and chooses to love Lysander. "A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM"

A cook at the school, and she is very much in love with Demetrius. To the point of obsession. Lacks self-confidence, and the ability to see herself for the beautiful woman that she is. "A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM"

The overconfident and enthusiastic theatre teacher on-staff. He is planning for his students to write and direct the play, “Thisbe & Pyramus” for Theseus & Hippolyta’s wedding, but he shamelessly cannot let go of the control, and consistently tries to place himself back into the play. Later on, the students write him into their own play, having him become a donkey… and a lot of other hairbrained schemes. "A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM"

Anne’s polite and practical father, Mr. Frank is the head of the “attic family.” His calmness and patience are an asset in the cramped attic and a comfort to Anne, who is very close to him. "ANNE FRANK: THE DIARY OF A YOUNG GIRL"

Anne’s reserved and nervous mother, Mrs. Frank loves Anne, but she wishes she were more proper and polite, like her sister Margot. Because of her reserved nature, Mrs. Frank and Anne are not close. "ANNE FRANK: THE DIARY OF A YOUNG GIRL"

An irritable former business partner of Mr. Frank, Mr. Van Daan’s family is invited to stay in the attic with the Franks. He is selfish and openly critical of others, especially Anne. "ANNE FRANK: THE DIARY OF A YOUNG GIRL"
