About the project: “A gem of a play, an old-fashioned love song that is affecting, funny, and evocative as a dream.” It’s a splendid moon-filled night at Coley’s Point in August, 1926. Jacob Mercer has returned from Toronto hoping to win back his former sweetheart, Mary Snow. But Mary has become engaged to wealthy Jerome McKenzie, and she is still hurt and bewildered by Jacob’s abrupt departure a year earlier. She will not be easily wooed. Rate: Performers will be paid a flat rate of $1960.00 for rehearsals and 8 performances. Payment will be modified in the occurrence of an extension. This is a non-union production. Additional information: Rehearsals run from July 22nd to August 12th, 2024. Approximately 28 hours/week. 84 hours total. Rehearsals will run Monday to Friday. There will be no rehearsal on Monday, August 7th for the civic holiday. Additional rehearsals will be held on Saturday, August 10th and Sunday, August 11th. Rehearsals will be located in either King Township or Toronto. Travel stipends will be made available to those eligible. Technical/Dress Rehearsals will occur on August 11th and 12th. Performances will occur outdoors in King City, Ontario. The show will be performed site-specific on the farm’s historic front porch for 8 performances. Performance dates: August 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 2024. All performances are in the evening. Inclement weather & possible extension dates: August 28th & 29th, 2024. A young woman trying to find her place in the world. She’s determined, and stubborn, yet deep down is a romantic. Fascinated by the stars. Jacob shattered her heart last summer. She resents Jacob for abandoning her, yet can’t help but be drawn back towards him. She is now engaged to Jerome McKenzie. She settled for Jerome, but he offers a path to a stable life.
Recently returned from a year in Toronto, where he had gone to make something of himself. Crafty, clever, and a bit cocky. Jacob believes he’s meant for more than the cards life has dealt him. He has come to Coley’s Point to win back Mary, a former sweetheart now engaged to the son of a man he despises. Performer must be an excellent storyteller with natural charisma. Must ground the character and have a strong sense of comedic timing. Simple singing is required.
