online audition
Description:

ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. Seeking cast to play roles in "A Hero Movie" film. More details are below. About the project: "A Hero Movie" (Working Title) is a film about a group of superheroes growing as individuals as they save the multiverse together. While being a "multiversal" event, the film is a very grounded situational comedy with satirical critiques on (mainly) patriarchy. The film follows four heroes as they meet a new batch off superheroes from different corners of the multiverse who make them think deeper about who they are. They also kick some ass together and save the multiverse, but that's not as important. TL;DR a superhero sitcom film. Rate: Non-Union. This is a non-paying project, i.e. a volunteer project. Directors make zero profit and do these films for fun. Additional information: AUDITION LOCATION Online. SHOOT/PERFORMANCE DATE(S) Mid-May to early July (number of actual shoot dates very low but most likely spread out due to cast/crew availability). SHOOT/PERFORMANCE LOCATION(S) Vancouver, BC. SUBMISSION DEADLINE May 4, 2024. As this is a superhero movie, there will be some fight scenes. However, as this is also a no budget movie, the fight scenes will be mostly choreographed on the spot and not be very professional at all, thus requiring zero stunt work experience. Basically, if you can pretend to punch someone, that's all directors need. And if you can't, they'll teach you! The final product will be posted on the YouTube channel Stupid Monkey Comics, a non-profit channel where directors make films. When applying, please submit the following details: (a) a photo of yourself (does not have to be a professional headshot or anything); (b) your name and what role you are interested in; (c) a little bit about yourself (as little or as much as you want, whatever you feel comfortable sharing!). Upon receiving your email, directors will respond in 1-2 business days with additional audition information and work towards scheduling an audition date together. Auditions will be held over Zoom.

A Hero Movie Casting

6 roles

StellaFemale18-24 y.o.All ethnicities

For the past few years, Stella has been a superhero operating in Vancouver who can teleport with the powers of a magic coat. She's also a mechanical engineer when she's not busy fighting crime. She's fought in a team before but has not kept in touch with them since. Her profession, and her superhero team, are both extremely male-dominated.

Man-WomanFemale18-30 y.o.All ethnicities

Man-Woman is a woman...with all the powers of a man. A satirical critique of our patriarchy, Man-Woman is the embodiment of toxic masculinity. However, her sexist remarks and ability to get equal pay don't come from a place of hatred, but of ignorance. Over the course of the film, she experiences some growth thanks to her new teammate Stella. She is not an aggressive person, but a very prideful one.

Doctor DabralMale18-40 y.o.All ethnicities

Doctor Dabral holds a PhD in the mystic arts and has been saving the multiverse for years. He is a practioner of magic who has a serious and straight-forward personality. He is ethically Indian and wiser than anyone else on his new superhero team. His power allows him to do practically anything, and he essentially acts as the guide for the journey throughout the multiverse.

Pencil ManMale18-30 y.o.All ethnicities

An amateur superhero who fights crime with pencils. He has been in a long-time feud with his arch-nemesis Paper Person, always trying to write on them. An over-the-top, comedic type of role. Not much else to say about him.

Paper PersonBoth genders18-30 y.o.All ethnicities

An amateur supervillain who commits crime with paper. They have been in a long-time feud with their arch-nemesis Pen Man, always trying to avoid getting written on. An over-the-top, comedic type of role. Not much else to say about them.

Additional charactersBoth genders18-56 y.o.All ethnicities

There are always smaller, few-line parts or fight scenes that require additional goons. Directors might also have other, larger parts that are not yet finalized due to the writing process not fully being complete, so a finalized script will bring around more parts in the end.
