About the project: CATS is set amongst a larger-than-life junkyard playground and is alive with purrfect felines including Rum Tum Tugger, Mr. Mistoffelees, Macavity, Jennyanydots, Old Deuteronomy, Skimbleshanks and Grizabella. The Jellicle Cats come out to play on one special night of the year—the night of the Jellicle Ball. One by one they tell their stories for the amusement of Old Deuteronomy, their wise and benevolent leader, who must choose one of the Cats to ascend to The Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life. Rate: Additional info: The production is scheduled to open on Friday, August 2, and close on Sunday, September 8. Rehearsals are scheduled to begin on Monday, June 10. This show’s ASL performance is scheduled for August 10. This show has an adaptive performance on August 15. Participants will be singing and dancing in one visit. Please plan to be at the Palace for about an hour once your audition time begins. Directors will see 8 performers per hour. The first part of the audition will be your song for the production team. The second part of the hour will be learning your dance combination. Performers will be able to sign up on Monday evening or Tuesday evening, April 29 and 30, respectively. You won’t have much time to change between singing and dancing, so please come in your dance audition outfit so that they can get you in and out on time. Please refrain from wearing jeans or restricting clothing for your dance audition. Please also bring jazz shoes or sneakers for the dance portion. Due to this new format, it is imperative that you show up before the hour mark of your audition time. Example: Your audition time is 6:00p, please show up by 5:50p to get signed in. Callbacks will take place on Wednesday, May 1 by invitation only from 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM on the Springer Stage. The vocal audition should consist of no more than one minute (16-32 bars) of a song of your choice keeping with the style of the show. Please factor that into your song choice as you prepare your audition. Singing something from the show is completely acceptable if you so choose, but directors want to see what song you choose to highlight your talents. An accompanist will be provided, and they will also be able to connect pre-recorded music if you bring that with you. Directors will not accept an acapella audition. If using pre-recorded music, please make sure to have the exact cut you will be using cued up prior to entering the audition room and it shouldn’t include vocals. If using sheet music, please make sure it is in the correct key, with any cuts clearly marked, and in a binder for the accompanist. See the file attached for the vocal sides. A fat upper-class cat who is respected by all. He is described as "the Brummell of cats" due to his immaculate pelt, which resembles a tuxedo and spats. // Sings - “Bustopher Jones - Cat About Town”
Male twin of Tantomile. Both of them are intuitive or even psychic, perfectly synchronized in their movements and nearly identical in appearance.

A former "glamour cat", ostracised by the Jellicles, who has lost her sparkle and now only wants to be accepted. An iconic role requiring a strong actress and vocalist. Sings - “Memory (Prelude)” "Grizabella: The Glamour Cat“ “Memory” This role is a partial moving cat but will be expected to sing in the ensemble, although mostly hidden.
A queen who watches out for the kittens and takes care of Gus. // Sings - "The Old Gumbie Cat" "Bustopher Jones: The Cat About Town” "The Old Gumbie Cat" "Grizabella: The Glamour Cat" (Reprise) "Gus: The Theatre Cat". This role needs to be a great dancer.
She sits around all day and is seemingly very lazy, but at night, she becomes very active as she rules the mice and cockroaches, forcing them to undertake helpful functions and creative projects to curb their naturally destructive habits. // Sings – "The Old Gumbie Cat“ "Bustopher Jones: The Cat About Town”. This role needs to be a dancer and be able to tap.
The show's only real villain and a literary allusion to the Sherlock Holmes character Professor Moriarty. He goes out of his way to terrorize the Jellicles, including seemingly employing some form of hypnosis. Plato's main function in the stage show is as the identity of the actor who also plays Macavity.

A grey tabby tomcat who is the storyteller and protector of the Jellicle tribe. He is Old Deuteronomy's second-in-command and the show's main narrator // Sings – “The Naming of Cats” “Invitation to the Jellicle Ball” “Old Deuteronomy”. This role needs to be a great dancer.
The wise and benevolent elderly Jellicle leader who is beloved by his tribe. He tries to get the other cats to accept Grizabella all through the show. // Sings - “Old Deuteronomy” “The Moments of Happiness” “The Ad-Dressing of Cats”. This role is a performing but not dancing cat.
A mischievous troublemaker, she is one half of a notorious duo of catburglars along with Mungojerrie // Sings – “Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer”. This role needs to be a great dancer. Tumbling and/or Gymnastics a plus!
A flashy and unappeasable cat who loves to be the center of attention. A bit of a diva and a show off. His temperament ranges from clownish to serious. This is one ‘cool’ cat! // Sings - “The Rum Tum Tugger” “Old Deuteronomy” “Mister Mistoffelees” This role needs to be a great dancer.
(lines) - – The youngest kitten. Sweet and compassionate, she becomes the first cat to accept Grizabella when she sings alongside her in "Memory (reprise)" // Sings - "Grizabella: The Glamour Cat" (Reprise) "The Moments of Happiness" "Memory". This cat will take on Cassandra's lines. This role needs to be a great dancer.
An upbeat and active orange tabby cat, who lives on the mail trains and acts as an unofficial chaperone to such an extent he is considered rather indispensable to the train and station employees. Quirky, require a good character actor. // Sings – “Skimbleshanks – the Railway Cat”. This role needs to be a great dancer.
Female twin of Coricopat. Both of them are perceived as intuitive or even psychic as they are the first among the tribe to sense the presence of strangers.
A naive and shy white kitten who is known for her beauty and poise. She is a featured dancer, opening with a dance solo after "The Naming of the Cats" and is the first character to touch Grizabella. No solos. This role needs to be a great dancer.
