Searching for performers to audition for the "The Color Purple" musical. Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: This musical adaptation of Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel spotlights Celie, a downtrodden young woman whose personal awakening over the course of 35 years forms the arc of this epic story. With a joyous score featuring jazz, ragtime, gospel, African music and blues, The Color Purple is a story of hope, a testament to the healing power of love, and a celebration of life. Rate: This is a non-union production. Each performer will receive a stipend. Additional info: Callback Date: Saturday, May 4. Please prepare a 32-bar cut (30 seconds to 1 minute) of a song in the style of the show. You may bring either sheet music for a provided accompanist, or a track on an electronic device. If using a track, please make sure that your track is edited for your cut. No acapella singing. Please bring a copy of your headshot and resume. Please be prepared to provide any rehearsal conflicts you may have. Conflicts on performance dates are not permitted if cast. Intimacy: This production will have several intimate moments onstage. A certified intimacy director will stage these moments and ensure that all involved are comfortable. Performance Dates: August 2-4, 2024 (5 performances; Call time is one hour before each performance.) Friday, August 2: 8 pm; Saturday, August 3: 2 pm; Saturday, August 3: 8 pm; Sunday, August 4: 2 pm; Sunday, August 4: 6:30 pm; Performance Venue: MATCH- Matchbox 4. First Day of Rehearsal: The first day of rehearsal will be Monday, June 17, 2024.​ Rehearsal Schedule: Please note that you may not be called to all rehearsals. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays: 6:30 pm-10 pm; Saturdays: 10 am-4 pm (with a 1 hour lunch break); Tech Week: Tech will be held in the theatre July 29-August 1 from 6 pm-11 pm.
