About the project: “The Naked Gun: Law of Toughness.” "The Naked Gun: series of films is coming back. Lt. Frank Drebin is coming back to solve the case and this time around, Liam Neeson will be playing the hilarious, fumbling detective. Liam Neeson takes over the role that was made famous by Leslie Nielsen who died in 2010. “The Naked Gun” movie series, a parody and take on the crime genre, follows the misadventures of police detective Frank Drebin. The classic series of movies is all about slapstick humor, witty one-liners delivered with a straight face, and absurdly non realistic situations. Paramount Pictures greenlit the remake of “Naked Gun,” and the movie, currently in pre-production, will begin filming within the next few months. Currently, Paramount Pictures has the release date for “The Naked Gun: Laws of Toughness” as July 18th, 2025. According to AP, Akiva Schaffer (“Hot Rod,” “Pop Star: Never Stop Stopping”) will direct the film, set for release in July 2025. The script is written by Dan Gregor, Doug Man and Schaffer. Akiva Schaffer is a former Saturday Night Live writer and is set to direct and executive producer the reboot of “Naked Gun.” The original concept for “The Naked Gun” was spun off of a Leslie Nielson television series Police Squad with “The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad” premiering on the silver screen in 1988. Two more movies followed starring Leslie Nielson “The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear” in 1991 and “Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult” in 1994. Rate: See the roles' description.
