Seeking Actors For Upcoming Stage Play "The Humans"
Auditions for play "The Humans". ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. See the details below. About the project: Recipient of The Tony Award for Best Play. "Breaking with tradition, Erik Blake has brought his Pennsylvania family to celebrate Thanksgiving at his daughter’s apartment in lower Manhattan. As darkness falls outside the ramshackle pre-war duplex, eerie things start to go bump in the night and the heart and horrors of the Blake clan are exposed." “Drawn in subtle but indelible strokes, Mr. Karam’s play might almost qualify as deep-delving reportage, so clearly does it illuminate the current, tremor-ridden landscape of contemporary America… THE HUMANS is a major discovery, a play as empathetic as it is clear-minded, as entertaining as it is honest. For all the darkness at its core…a bright light shines forth from it, the blazing luminescence of collective artistic achievement.” — NY Times. The 60 year old father of Irish-American Blake family. Like many Irish-Americans, he is an active Catholic. He lives in Scranton, Pennsylvania, with his wife, Deirdre. Erik has worked maintenance and as an equipment manager at a private Catholic school for the last 28 years, where his daughters also attended school. He and Deirdre have been caring for his mother, Momo, who is suffering from dementia. He has not been sleeping well due to nightmares.
Erik’s 61 year old wife. She lives in Scranton, Pennsylvania with Erik, where they care for Erik’s mother, Momo. Deirdre, like Erik, is a devout Catholic and wishes her daughters followed suit. She has worked as an office manager in the same office for over 40 years. Through her connections with the church, she volunteers with refugees from Bhutan.
The 34 year old Irish-American daughter of Erik and Deirdre. Amiee is having a hard year: she is going through a divorce from her wife, Carol; she works as a lawyer in a law firm that has recently informed her she is no longer on the partner track (meaning she should look for other employment); and on top of all of this, she has developed ulcerative colitis. She lives and works in Philadelphia.
The 26 year old Irish- American daughter of Erik and Deirdre. Originally from Scranton, Pennsylvania, she moved to New York to go to school, where she accumulated a lot of student debt. She just moved into a new apartment (with a loud upstairs neighbor and an interior courtyard full of cigarette butts) in Chinatown with her boyfriend, Richard. In this new apartment, she and Richard are hosting Thanksgiving for her family. Brigid works as a bartender and at a restaurant.
79 year old Irish-American mother of Erik. She lives with Erik and Deirdre, who are her caretakers, because she has dementia. Today, she is having a particularly rough day. She is not lucid very often and frequently mumbles under her breath. Before her illness, she was headstrong and independent. In her youth, she lived in poverty in New York before leaving the city.
38 year old boyfriend of Brigid. Comes from money, but will not be able to access his trust until he is 40. In school to get his masters in social work. He has been having strange dreams lately due to the stress of moving.
