In mid-1990s Massachusetts, the DeFilippo family finds itself coming apart on the heels of the death of their matriarch. At the center of this is Bernice, unhappily engaged to the toxic Tommy, secretly pregnant with his child, and staring down the barrel of a life she knows she doesn’t want to live.
