About the project: Relive the incredible journey of Carole King, from writing pop classics for renowned artists to her chart-topping success with Tapestry, in the captivating musical Beautiful. With over two dozen timeless hits like “You’ve Got a Friend” and “Natural Woman,” this international phenomenon combines beloved songs with an unforgettable story that will leave a lasting impression. Rate: LOA $777 weekly minimum (Ref. to LORT). Additional info: Callbacks: April 8th and 9th; Rehearsals begin: July 9th, 2024; Performances begin July 31st, 2024; Close: September 8th, 2024; Possible extension until September 22nd, 2024; Performance schedule: 6 to 7 shows per week: Tuesdays through Sundays at 7:30 pm and some Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 2:30 pm. Vocal range top: Eb5 Vocal range bottom: Eb3. An aspiring singer/songwriter. A unique, appealing, funny, and vulnerable girl from a Jewish family in Brooklyn. Talented, good-natured, unassuming, and often the peacemaker in difficult situations. A reluctant star with no pretense and a passion for music. A powerful, distinctive voice. Piano skills are preferred but not required.
Vocal range top: A4 Vocal range bottom: D3. Carole’s boyfriend, songwriting partner, and eventual husband. He is smoldering, with a rebel vibe. Although sexy, he is innately sympathetic, wounded, and tortured. An ambitious artist always striving for more. Sings well.
Vocal range top: E5 Vocal range bottom: G3. A songwriter who becomes romantically involved with Barry. Carole’s best friend. She is sophisticated, smart & chic with a quick wit. Although self-confident and sarcastic, she is also extremely likeable. Strong comic timing who sings extremely well.
Vocal range top: A4 Vocal range bottom: C3. A songwriter who becomes romantically involved with Cynthia. He is good natured, appealing & neurotic. Ambitious, but likeable. Comedic with a great voice. Comfortable with pop & rock style singing.
Vocal range top: C#4 Vocal range bottom: A2. An influential music publisher and producer. He is a fast talking, energetic force of nature. Powerful, direct & sometimes intimidating, but he has a real affinity for his writers and artists. A hit maker.
Carole’s Jewish mother. Once an aspiring playwright, she has been broken down by life & her husband’s infidelity. Protective of Carole and unforgiving of her husband’s mistakes. Non singing role.
