About the play: Loosely based on the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar follows the last week of Jesus Christ’s life. The story, told entirely through song, explores the personal relationships and struggles between Jesus, Judas Iscariot, Mary Magdalene as well as Christ’s disciples, followers and the Roman Empire. A timeless treasure, Jesus Christ Superstar has wowed audiences for over 50 years with its unique rock score. Additional information: PLEASE NOTE: There is fee required. Tenor Belt: A2-G5. The leader of the twelve apostles; exudes peace, proclaims peace, lives peace. The spell he casts over his followers comes partly from pure simplicity and partly from their desire to adore him. Must be an excellent singer and actor.
(Tenor Belt: D3-D5). One of twelve apostles of Jesus; concerned for the poor and for the consequences of Jesus’ fame. A conflicted man, and powerfully passionate.
(Mezzo-Soprano: F3-Eflat5). The female follower of Jesus who finds herself conflicted with emotions about his journey.
(Baritenor: G2-G4). One of Jesus’ twelve apostles. Denies Christ three times upon the night of his arrest in order to save himself.
(Tenor: G3-B4; Dancer). One of Jesus’ twelve apostles. Urges Jesus to lead his followers into battle against the romans. High energy.
(Bass: C2-F4). The high priest of Jerusalem who, according to Biblical accounts, sent Jesus to Pilate for his execution.
(Tenor). The King of Galilee; Jesus is brought to him for judgment after his first being taken to Pilate. Must be an excellent character actor/comedian.
(Baritone: A2-B4). Governor of Judea who foresees the events of Christ’s crucifixion from beginning to aftermath in a dream, and finds himself presented with that very situation. This character is the most conflicted in the play, and must have a strong presence.
(Tenor: G2-D5). Fellow priest at the side of Caiaphas who is persuaded into seeing Christ as a threat.
(SATB). Must be excellent singers. They make up the 12 apostles as well as lepers, townsfolk and merchants.
(Non-Singing). Seeking a group of trained dancers to appear in various numbers, such as ‘Jesus Christ Superstar,’ ‘Heal Me, Christ,’ ‘Simon Zealotes’ and more.
