"Steel Magnolias" Show Looking for Performers
The company is holding auditions for "Steel Magnolias" Show and looking for performers, please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. About the project: Truvy and the gang are back again with all the wit, sass, and Louisiana charm that have made them favorites of the American stage (and screen). In Truvy's salon, sharp-tongued Ouiser spars with lifelong friend Clairee, Annelle finds liberation (and God), and M'Lynn and her only daughter Shelby share the experiences of growing up, moving on, and finally letting go. As the play moves through the lives of these women, their inner selves shine through the loving banter of small-town beauty shop gossip, and revealing a collaborative strength that celebrates the bonds of friendship and the renewing cycle of life. 6 roles
Owner of a small-town beauty shop which is where our story is set. Intelligent, has a head for business because she operates the most successful beauty shop in Chinquapin, LA. Although married to “Spud” are they happy? She has a lot to say that evokes a “hopeless romantic” at heart. (Be prepared to style hair)
This hair-dresser becomes Truvy’s new assistant. New in town and painfully shy; she’s naive, serious, full of apprehensions, but she truly loves and cares for the people in her life. Eager to please, Annelle is searching for her path in life while trying to forget her past. Being a beautician is the one positive thing she has chosen for herself. (Prepared to wear several wigs and style hair)
Widow of the former mayor of Chinquapin, Louisiana, but will always be the First Lady of Chinquapin. Clairee is a true “grande dame” and does everything with a Southern grace and charm. She is stylish, wealthy and socially prominent but unpretentious. She is the sarcastic member of the group and Ouiser calls her out for her “smart mouth” which she fills up with all of Truvy’s recipes. She knows everyone’s business and loves to laugh and poke fun at the little things that others cry over.
A young lady in her mid-twenties who constantly matches wits with her mother M’Lynn. She is excited about being in love and starting her new life with Jackson Latcherie. Shelby is always there for anyone, and touches each of the women in the play in a different way. She’s full of life and compassion which shows through her work - she is a pediatric nurse in the local hospital’s infant ward.
Has been married to “crazy” Drum Eatenton for 30 years and they are parents to three children (Shelby and two boys: Jonathan and Tommy). She is organized and feels she knows what is best in any given situation, especially where her daughter Shelby is concerned. She loves her fiercely and wants to protect Shelby at all costs.
She is the same age as Clairee and they are very close. Very wealthy but doesn’t look or play the part; Ouiser previously married “two [of the] most worthless men in the universe and proceeded to have the three most ungrateful children ever conceived” but now finds herself “alone” with her beloved old dog Rhett for a long time and set in her ways. She’s an eccentric and a curmudgeon who has lived life and not afraid to speak her mind at all costs. She is a loveably miserable lady, though.
