"4.48 Psychosis" Play Looking for Actors

About the project: "4.48 Psychosis" is a visceral, harrowing, dreamlike, unsettling, and unforgettable poem of a play. The title refers to the time at which the playwright herself would regularly awake and the story takes place between 4:48 and 6:00 AM, the time at which she felt it possible in principle to become part of civilization. In the play Kane is represented as a patient in a mental institution who, between 4:48 and 6:00 AM, experiences her world as a chaotic tangle of emotions – confusion, sorrow, disembodiment, anger, and grief – many of them conveyed to her by voices in the void that surrounds her bed, voices with which she sometimes interacts. Additional information: Actors must be registered to audition and all actors audition together. Several days before the audition, a copy of all relevant audition sides will be emailed to registrants to help them audition to the best of their ability. During the audition you may be asked to read the same scene multiple times with different scene partners. Don’t worry – you aren’t expected to have the sides memorized. 4.48 Psychosis is for mature audiences only due to its intensity and graphic content – including depression, love, suicide, relationships, the use and misuse of drugs to treat mental illness, isolation, and the long-term consequences of trauma.
